UK airline Jet2.com has announced a new ski destination to Innsbruck, giving skiers and snowboarders travelling from Birmingham Airport more choice for this winter.

Jet2.com has put a weekly Saturday service on sale to the capital city of the Tyrol region from December 21 until April 11, 2020.

Innsbruck – the host of the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics – provides access to ski resorts such as Nordkette, Mutteralm, Axamer, Obergugl, Igls and Seefeld.

With the addition, Jet2.com will operate to five ski destinations in winter, the other four being Geneva, Grenoble, Salzburg and Turin, providing direct access to the French, Austrian, Swiss and Italian Alps.

Skiers and snowboarders will now have increased choice and flexibility, with over 55,000 ski seats on sale for winter 19/20 from Birmingham Airport.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: ‘We enjoyed another successful ski programme from Birmingham Airport last winter, and with skiers and snowboarders already looking ahead to Winter 19/20 so are we. With a brand new ski destination in Innsbruck, and more perfectly timed flights at the most popular times, we are putting on our best-ever ski programme. With more choice and flexibility, skiers and snowboarders can hit the slopes for a weekend, a short break or for longer, whilst flying with our award-winning airline and benefitting from 22kg of baggage and ski allowance.’

Tom Screen, Aviation Director at Birmingham Airport, said: ‘Jet2.com in Birmingham is going from strength to strength and we welcome the announcement of another new route with the airline to Innsbruck, starting in December. I’m sure this will be welcomed by many thrill seekers looking to hit the slopes this winter, and we thank Jet2.com for continuing to invest in Birmingham to provide the connectivity to popular leisure destinations for our region.’ For the school holidays in February, the airline added more flights to Salzburg, and the company has added a second Saturday service to Geneva from early February until the end of March, Jet2.com said.

Jet2.com introduces in-flight gluten-free and vegan meal options for customers to pre-order

British airline company Jet2.com has introduced two gluten-free meals and two vegan options to its selection of pre-ordered meals.

Jet2 said that in direct response to demand from customers, the company has added two gluten-free options to give customers increased choice of meals when flying with the airline. The Gluten Free Roast Chicken Dinner includes a traditional roast chicken breast with grilled potatoes and vegetables, served with a gluten-free gravy. The All-Day Gluten Free Breakfast is topped with grilled bacon, scrambled egg, rosti potatoes, and sautéed mushrooms in a tomato sauce.

In addition, following demand from customers who have removed animal products from their diet, Jet2 has introduced two new vegan meals, including an All-Day Vegan Breakfast featuring a grilled vegan sausage, rosti potatoes, and sautéed mushrooms in a tomato sauce, as well as a Vegan Moroccan Vegetable Tagine served with couscous.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: ‘Customer feedback shows that there is strong demand for vegan and gluten-free options, so we are delighted to be introducing these four delicious meals, giving customers more choice on our award-winning airline. We are always looking at ways in which we can develop our offering and VIP customer experience, and we are sure that these new pre-ordered meals will be just as popular as the exciting in-flight menu changes that we have already announced this year.’

The airline has introduced several culinary announcements this year, giving customers a wider range of in-flight food choice. In January, Jet2 added its first ever vegan option to its in-flight menu, with the introduction of a Penne Arrabbiata pasta dish, and in May the airline introduced two Nando’s snacks to its new in-flight menu – the first UK airline to introduce Nando’s onboard.
