Blue Islands, a new airline and a franchise partner of Flybe, will launch a new direct service from Wales’ Cardiff Airport to Guernsey in the Channel Islands for the summer 2017 season, according to a news release by the airport.

The new flights to Guernsey will begin on Tuesday May 2, 2017, operating three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays throughout next summer until September 30, 2017. The new service will be operated using Blue Islands’ 68-seat ATR 72 aircraft. Flights are available for booking with fares starting from £39.99 one way at Flybe.com.

Debra Barber, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer at Cardiff Airport, said: ‘It’s great to welcome another airline to Cardiff Airport. The franchise agreement between Blue Islands and Flybe is an innovative way to offer our customers even more choice and value for money, as demonstrated by the introduction of a new service to Guernsey.

‘The island offers visitors a unique experience and boasts stunning scenery, and with three departures a week it’s ideal for a short, relaxing break. Additionally this offers residents the perfect opportunity to visit Wales and to discover all that our stunning country has to offer.’

Rob Veron, Blue Islands CEO, said: ‘Blue Islands is committed to the rejuvenation of our tourism industry and we hope this new route will be a valuable boost to our island’s visitor economy. With the added benefit of our Flybe franchise, Blue Islands is also better equipped than ever to encourage the 1.8m audience surrounding Cardiff Airport to discover our beautiful island.’

‘We are working closely with Visit Guernsey, Visit Wales, Guernsey and Cardiff airports. As well as attracting new visitors to Guernsey, with a flight time of just one hour, this new service provides islanders with an exciting new direct destination, perfect for city breaks. Cardiff offers wonderful shopping, heritage, world-class entertainment and of course the gateway to discovering South Wales and all that this stunning region has to offer.’
