The cruise industry has united to support a significant new initiative, Embers, aimed at providing vital resources for young adults diagnosed with incurable cancer.
Prominent cruise lines are backing the cause, offering substantial support to the new charity founded by Clare Sacco.
Charity Initiative Gains Industry Support
The travel industry has rallied behind Embers, a newly launched cancer charity spearheaded by Clare Sacco, a marketing manager at The Travel Academy. Embers aims to bridge the gap in support for young adults, aged 18 to 40, facing incurable cancer diagnoses. Numerous prominent cruise lines, including Uniworld River Cruises and Oceania Cruises, have committed to supporting this crucial initiative through donations and participation.
Inaugural Fundraising Event Details
Embers will mark its entrance with a fundraising event scheduled for 10 September at The Village Hotel in Elstree. This event promises to feature a luxurious auction, raffle, and entertainment, aiming to captivate attendees.
The goal is to raise £10,000 to bolster the charity’s mission of providing essential resources and support networks for young adults confronting terminal cancer. The event will serve as a testament to the collective effort of the travel and cruise industries.
Clare Sacco’s Personal Journey
Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019, Clare Sacco’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. Last year, she faced a more daunting challenge with a treatable yet incurable stage four cancer diagnosis.
Clare’s personal experience highlighted a dire need for dedicated support systems catering to her age group, which led to the creation of Embers.
Sacco expressed her gratitude, stating, “I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from colleagues and businesses across the travel industry.”
Broad Industry Acknowledgment
Chris Townson, managing director for Uniworld UK, underscored the significance of the inaugural Embers event. He noted the commendable initiative undertaken by Sacco to establish support for young adults with incurable cancer.
Townson stated, “Despite her incredibly difficult diagnosis, Clare has identified such an important need,” urging other businesses to support this meaningful cause as well.
Embers exemplifies a commitment to addressing underserved needs within the community, extending beyond the confines of the travel industry.
Auction Highlights
The luxury auction promises enticing prizes such as a seven-night cruise with flights from Uniworld River Cruises and a luxury cruise from Azamara Cruises.
Items like a £500 voucher from Hays Travel and a three-night stay at the Ritz-Carlton Abama, Tenerife, add an edge to the event.
The auction not only aims to raise funds but also to engage participants in supporting a vital cause.
Embers’ Long-term Vision
Having identified a critical gap, Embers sets out to facilitate access to crucial support for a demographic often overlooked.
Through ongoing collaborations with industry leaders, Embers envisions creating a robust support network for young adults with life-threatening cancer diagnoses.
By establishing a platform for shared experiences and resources, Embers endeavours to help alleviate the burden faced by these young adults.
Call for Broader Industry Participation
While cruise lines and travel agencies have been pivotal in the initial stages, Sacco and her team advocate for wider industry support.
Their objective is to widen the support base beyond cruise and travel to other sectors, enhancing the charity’s reach and impact.
The collective efforts of the cruise industry reflect a commitment to addressing the needs of young adults with terminal cancer through Embers.
This initiative marks a crucial step in creating a robust support network for a demographic often left underserved.
