Norwegian has debuted a new flight route from Gatwick to northern Norway, specifically to Harstad-Narvik airport in Evenes.

These flights are scheduled weekly and will commence in November, offering a direct link for travellers keen to experience the northern lights and the Arctic wilderness.

Tickets for the new route, connecting London to northern Norway, have gone on sale. This weekly service, beginning 2 November, will operate during the winter season.

Magnus Thome Maursund, chief commercial officer at Norwegian, highlighted the region’s attractions including the northern lights and the stunning Arctic wilderness.

The launch of this route is a significant step in enhancing connectivity between northern Norway and London. Northern Norway is now accessible within four hours, providing residents the convenience to explore England’s bustling capital.

Narvik, known for its breathtaking location inside the Arctic circle, has recently been named as the host city for the FIS Alpine World Cup Ski Championships in 2029.

Harstad-Narvik airport serves as a strategic entry to regions like the Lofoten islands.

The Lofoten islands, a haven for nature lovers and northern light enthusiasts, can be easily reached from Evenes.

Alongside the Lofoten islands, visitors can enjoy unique whale experiences in Vesterålen, making the area a year-round destination for nature and adventure tourism.

Vegeir Selboe, marketing manager for Destination Lofoten, expressed optimism that the new route will boost tourism.

This development promises to enhance the local economy significantly, marking a major milestone for the community.

The arrival of more tourists is anticipated to have a positive effect on local businesses, encouraging further economic activities in the region.

The tourism influx is expected to catalyse growth in the hospitality and service sectors, resulting in job creation and increased business revenues.

Increasing accessibility to northern Norway will appeal both to international tourists and locals. Easier access to stunning Arctic landscapes will attract more travellers.

The new service is forecasted to transform the travel dynamics of the region by offering more diversified travel options.

As the region opens up to more international visitors, expectations are that it will foster stronger cultural and economic ties between Norway and the UK.

The new direct route by Norwegian is set to enhance connectivity and bolster tourism in northern Norway, promising substantial benefits for both the local economy and international travellers.
