Aviation Minister Anthony Browne shared insights on the Atol reform process, indicating updates will be provided later this year.

The announcement was made at a Civil Aviation Authority event, acknowledging the significance of the reform amid evolving consumer expectations.

During a recent event, Aviation Minister Anthony Browne confirmed that an update on the Atol reform will be delivered before the end of the year.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) along with the Department for Transport (DfT) are analysing industry feedback, causing a delay in the reform timetable.

The event was held at the Speaker’s House in the Palace of Westminster, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Atol scheme.

Notable speakers included Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP and CAA chair Sir Stephen Hillier, highlighting Atol’s impact over the decades.

Atol is praised as a ‘fantastic brand’ effectively serving the travel industry for 50 years.

The scheme continues to evolve, adapting to meet rising consumer expectations in financial protection. It remains integral to the broader travel protection framework.

CAA Chair Sir Stephen Hillier emphasised the need for reforms to align with digital advancements and consumer demands.

The proposed changes face delays due to comprehensive analysis required from industry feedback.

The collaboration between CAA and DfT aims to ensure that reforms meet current and future travel industry challenges.

Speeches during the event addressed the necessity of evolving the Atol scheme to meet modern challenges.

Ian Taylor, Travel Weekly executive editor, noted the ongoing support needed from industry stakeholders to ensure successful reform implementation.

Discussions underscored the importance of aligning the scheme with current regulatory standards and consumer expectations.
