The introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) technology will not displace jobs, according to a senior official at Tui Group. The executive board of Europe’s largest travel group has established a joint policy paper with its workers’ council, which outlines guidelines for implementing AI with a focus on employee impact.
Nearly 7,000 employees have participated in two initial e-learning courses on generative AI, underlining the company’s commitment to preparing its workforce for a future integrated with AI technologies. This policy paper acts as a framework for the use of AI, emphasising its potential while safeguarding staff interests.
Tui is introducing training programmes to equip employees with the necessary expertise to leverage generative AI in their roles effectively. The aim is to enhance productivity and efficiency, ensuring employees are prepared for high-value tasks in a tech-driven environment.
Group chief people officer Sybille Reiss stated that Tui plans to extensively integrate AI in its systems and daily operations, focusing on employee skill enhancement rather than job elimination. According to Reiss, the company believes that AI will not eliminate jobs but transform certain roles, underscoring the need for employee training in high-value tasks.
Tui is proactively addressing the future of AI in employment by establishing an advisory team comprising company and employee representatives.
