European online travel agency, eDreams Odigeo, has achieved a remarkable 44% surge in annual profitability through its strategic shift to a subscription model. The company reported an adjusted net profit of €22.9 million for the fiscal year ending March 31, reversing a loss of €34.7 million in the previous year. This significant turnaround is largely attributed to the Prime subscription scheme, which now accounts for over 75% of the company’s profits.
The company has seen a substantial increase in Prime membership, growing by 34% to surpass 5.8 million subscribers. This has been driven by strong consumer advocacy and rising satisfaction rates, enabling eDreams Odigeo to forecast further growth to 7.25 million members by the end of the current financial year.
The unique value proposition of personalised travel plans powered by cutting-edge AI, exclusive member-only deals, and the convenience of a global one-stop travel shop has set eDreams Odigeo apart in the industry. The integration of the entire travel market onto a single platform represents a pioneering approach.
Dana Duane, CEO of eDreams Odigeo, stated, “These outstanding results prove that eDreams Odigeo and its unique business model have come of age. We are a world-leading, scalable subscription platform that delights customers and achieves superior financial performance.” The CEO emphasised the company’s journey, stating that they promised shareholders to become the largest travel subscription company worldwide, a goal they have successfully achieved despite numerous challenges.
eDreams Prime’s rapid growth, expanding over tenfold since just before the pandemic, underscores the resilience of the business model. Despite adverse conditions, including the pandemic, travel restrictions, inflation, macroeconomic uncertainty, and geopolitical conflicts, Prime has demonstrated itself as not merely a concept but a proven success model.
The subscription service offers an AI-tailored, personalised travel experience that enhances subscriber satisfaction and engagement. Customers are booking more frequently, finding value in the exclusive, tailored services offered.
As the company progresses into the final year of its ambitious 3.5-year strategic plan, it aims to capitalise on its stable foundation and low single-digit market penetration to expand further. The potential for growth beyond fiscal year 2025 remains vast, with eDreams Odigeo confident in making significant strides in the upcoming years.
eDreams Odigeo’s strategic shift to a subscription model has proven highly successful, setting a strong foundation for future growth.
