Designer Travel’s agents have completed a rigorous sustainability masterclass, aiming to arm themselves with the knowledge to tackle greenwashing effectively. Provided by Kiwano Tourism, this ‘level one’ course was successfully completed by more than 40 team members, significantly boosting their expertise in sustainable travel.
The course included essential guidance on identifying instances of greenwashing, which has become crucial for ensuring genuine environmental practices. As these agents are often updated by suppliers on sustainability efforts, the training equips them to scrutinise these claims critically.
Animal welfare emerged as a significant focus during the training. Karen Pocock, one of the managing directors, stressed the importance of responsible wildlife encounters, drawing attention to the need for informed decision-making in tourist activities involving animals. Her comments underscore a move towards more ethical travel experiences.
Pocock expressed great pride in her team’s achievement and highlighted the programme’s powerful impact. “We want to be confident when our customers ask us detailed questions about our suppliers and their sustainability work,” she stated, emphasising the need for transparency and accuracy in communications with customers and suppliers alike.
Looking to the future, a new animal welfare policy, endorsed by World Animal Protection, is poised to be introduced. This policy reflects a growing industry acknowledgment of the importance of ethical treatment of wildlife, further solidifying Designer Travel’s commitment to responsible travel.
Designer Travel is poised to lead in sustainable and ethical travel, backed by extensive training and a new animal welfare focus.
