PROMPERÚ has issued an update following the recent railway incident on the route to Machupicchu. The organisation expressed its support for those affected and extended its sympathy to the family of the victim.

Immediately after the incident, the Peruvian State activated tourist assistance and protection procedures. The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism led the response through the Tourist Protection Network, working in coordination with relevant public authorities.

Emergency teams focused on the care of passengers and local residents. Authorities carried out evacuations, provided medical treatment, and offered ongoing support. Medical staff, ambulances, and specialist responders were deployed from the earliest stages of the response.

Passenger evacuation took place in a structured manner during the early hours. Rail services resumed only after safety checks were completed and approval was granted by the competent authorities.

The authorities are investigating the cause of the incident. PROMPERÚ confirmed that it respects this process and will rely on official findings made in line with the law.

Support measures for visitors include options to reschedule or request refunds for Machupicchu entry tickets. Tourism associations and operators continue to work with authorities to provide guidance, information, and logistical assistance to affected travellers.

PROMPERÚ confirmed that Machupicchu remains open and that tourism activity is returning in stages under coordinated safety and operational arrangements.

The organisation noted that incidents can occur in any destination. It stated that Peru has relied on established response systems to manage the situation and safeguard visitors, and that these systems remain active.

PROMPERÚ reaffirmed its commitment to responsible tourism promotion, visitor safety, clear communication, and continued cooperation with public and private sector partners.
