FOUR years and counting for Michelin Starred Pentonbridge Inn as the fine dining destination reinforces its status as one of Cumbria’s leading eateries.
The restaurant-with-rooms first received a Michelin star in 2023 and has now successfully retained the accolade for the fourth consecutive year in the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2026.
Head Chef Chris Archer, General Manager Ross Bell and Director of Operations Kim Capstick attended the Michelin Guide launch event, where this year’s Michelin-starred restaurants were revealed, marking another significant milestone for the Pentonbridge Inn team.
Chris Archer, Head Chef at Pentonbridge Inn, said: “Retaining our Michelin star for a fourth year is a huge achievement and one that means a great deal to the whole team. “We’re incredibly fortunate to have access to exceptional ingredients locally, which allows us to cook in a way that’s both sustainable and packed with sensational flavours.
“My approach to fine dining is rooted in seasonality, respect for ingredients and consistency. Everyone here shares that dedication, and every dish is about giving our guests a memorable experience. This recognition is a real reflection of the passion and care that goes into every service.”
Pentonbridge Inn’s seasonal menus showcase modern British cooking, with produce sourced from the restored walled garden at its sister property, Netherby Hall, alongside ingredients from trusted local suppliers across Cumbria and the surrounding region. Chris works closely with the garden team to ensure fruit, herbs and vegetables are used at their best and play a central role in shaping the menu throughout the year.
Director of Operations Kim Capstick said: “This is a true team achievement. Everyone at Pentonbridge Inn works incredibly hard to ensure every guest enjoys the same exceptional experience, time and time again. Delivering consistency at this level is a real team effort and I’m extremely proud of the dedication shown by every member of the team.”
Situated close to the Anglo-Scottish border in the village of Penton, Pentonbridge Inn combines Michelin-starred dining with elegant accommodation. Front of house is led by General Manager Ross Bell, with the business owned by Gerald and Margo Smith, who also operate luxury self-catering accommodation at nearby Netherby Hall.
Alongside its Michelin star, Pentonbridge Inn holds three AA Rosettes and has received several prestigious accolades, including Newcomer of the Year at the Good Hotel Guide César Awards and an Editor’s Choice Award for pub-with-rooms.
New for 2026, Pentonbridge Inn is also introducing a new Friday Supper Club, giving more people the opportunity to enjoy its fine dining experience.
The Friday Supper Club runs every Friday from 6pm to 7pm, offering a two-course set menu priced at £35, served in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
