Costa Cruises, an Italy-based cruise company and part of US-based Carnival Corporation, has announced the debut of its newest cruise ship, the Costa Fascinosa.
Costa Fascinosa, an 114,500 gross tonnage vessel, which can host around 3,800 total guests, has been delivered to the company in Venice, Italy. The company has announced that Costa Fascinosa and all Costa fleet vessels will be implementing seven new safety initiatives to maintain high safety standards for the fleet.
Pier Luigi Foschi, the company chairman and chief executive officer, said, ‘The delivery of Costa Fascinosa is an important stepping stone on our Company’s road to recovery. It is confirmation that the long-term fundamentals of our business remain strong, since the investment of more than €500 million comes just two months after the €90 million revamp of Costa neoRomantica.
After the recent incident, despite the economic downturn and the impact on consumption, Costa has bounced back and booking volumes are back to the same levels recorded this time last year, ahead of even our own expectations. Our share of the market in the main countries where we operate has not been affected: we were, are and will remain number one in Europe. This is thanks to the quality of our product, the strength of our brand, which comes with a guarantee of more than 60 years of experience, and our unfailing customer loyalty. We will continue to work for our customers, offering them even better and safer cruises on fantastic ships like Costa Fascinosa.’
In recent times, the company had been in the headlines following the grounding of the Costa Concordia cruise ship on January 13, 2012, which had resulted in the deaths of 32 people.
