American Influencer King’s Guard Incident Draws Backlash Online

An American influencer at the King’s Guard post in Whitehall has attracted widespread condemnation after footage of her behaviour near the mounted sentries was shared on Instagram, prompting critical responses from both British locals and fellow Americans.

Sit-Down Meal Beside the Sentry Post

The travel content creator initially posted her own footage, in which she is seen sitting cross-legged in front of a King’s Guard position and attempting to eat a full English breakfast. During the clip, she questions whether people eat such food unironically in London, makes comments about the guard being ‘in love with her’, and is heard being told that the location is not a place to eat lunch.

The post had attracted roughly 1,600 comments at the time of writing, the majority critical of her conduct. One commenter wrote: ‘You were asked nicely to not do that. You went on to prove to the UK everything the world thinks of the USA right now. Well done on lowering the bar. Hope you are proud of yourself.’

American viewers also distanced themselves from the behaviour. ‘This is so disrespectful, and I’m from America, and even I know about this,’ one wrote. ‘You aren’t supposed to bother the royal guards while they are working; she’s lucky she is behind the white line, or the horse would attack her.’

American Influencer King’s Guard Confrontation Caught on Bystander Video

The situation escalated when a second video, recorded covertly by onlookers, came to light. That footage shows the influencer actively refusing to comply with instructions from a Non-Commissioned Officer and arguing with a local woman who appeared to object to the filming. The influencer is heard using a mock British accent, calling the local woman an ‘arsehole’ and repeating ‘Okay, governor.’

The bystander clip drew equally pointed commentary. ‘On behalf of fellow Americans, please accept my sincere apologies,’ one Instagram user wrote. Others called for stronger intervention: ‘They should have been arrested. Eating food while sitting on a footpath is not a picnic! Ignorant behaviour! Where were the police?’ One commenter described those involved as ‘rude and disrespectful to everyone.’

One of the original comments that gained traction described the conduct as ‘Completely disrespectful and obnoxious behaviour,’ a phrase that subsequently attached itself to coverage of the clip across social platforms.

A Pattern of Influencer Conduct at Public Landmarks

The incident sits alongside a growing list of influencer-related controversies at regulated or ceremonial sites. The Royal Household‘s Horse Guards post in Whitehall differs from the Buckingham Palace Changing of the Guard in one practical respect: there are no railings separating visitors from the sentries and horses during the change, making close access straightforward and, by extension, interference easier.

The current case is not the first time a content creator has faced public censure over behaviour at a controlled site. An influencer was recently permanently banned from Six Flags after attempting to film themselves eating chicken nuggets on a moving roller coaster. Separately, a right-wing influencer was refused entry to the United Kingdom after the Secretary of State for the Home Department determined their presence was ‘not considered to be conducive to the public good.’

In the Whitehall case, no arrest or formal action against the influencer has been reported. The Non-Commissioned Officer seen in the bystander footage had already issued a direct order to leave the area before the confrontation with the local woman unfolded on camera.
