New Jacket Fits the Bill for Carry-On Luggage

A new jacket that the designer hopes will be available by November of this year could help buyers sidestep the escalating charges that budget airlines are imposing for checked luggage.

The Daily Mail has reported that the Stuffa jacket, the brainchild of Sandro Cafasso, is the equivalent of a wearable suitcase, with the sleeveless, puffer-style garment having a dozen built in storage compartments. According to the report, Gizmodo, a technology website, was able to pack the jacket with a pair of jeans, a light hoodie, a pair of long shorts, four T-shirts, six pairs of socks, four pairs of men’s underwear and a scarf.

The jacket should be available in red and black, for men or women, and in addition to the two standard external pockets that such garments usually have, it is fitted with four large internal panels at the back and eight small ones at the front. With the panels being made of expandable netting, the wearer’s own girth is likely to be the biggest restriction on his or her carrying capacity!

At a pre-release estimate of £94, the price might sound as bulky as a fully stuffed jacket, but for frequent travellers, especially those who travel light, it could be a sound investment. The incident that apparently inspired Mr Cafasso to invest in his jacket involved a girl who was half of his body weight being made to pay £120 at an airline service desk because her baggage was just 6 kg overweight. It occurred to him that ‘nobody weighs passengers’, and a business idea was born.

Mr Cafasso still needs more investors to help him hit his November launch date.
