British Airways is planning to entertain travellers with sports and arts this summer showing special highlights of the football from Brazil, tennis Wimbledon championships and Formula 1 motor-racing events around the world, as well as playing host at the Isle of Wight Festival.

Football fans travelling with several of the British Airways long-haul flights in June and July may tune in to the highlights from Brazil during the final stages of the tournament, and weekly during the group stages.

Tennis fans will be able to enjoy highlights of Wimbledon, when London’s famous tennis championship returns on June 23 until July 6.

Racing fans will also be able to tune in to special highlights shows following the British Grand Prix and the German Grand Prix in July.

Richard D’Cruze, British Airways’ in-flight entertainment manager, said: ‘Football, motorsports and tennis are some of the most loved sports – both nationally and internationally, and we are delighted to be able to bring the best action to passengers, so they don’t miss out.’

The highlights programmes will be available in the ‘Sport’ section of British Airways’ in-flight entertainment. The airline’s lounges will also be showing the action live for passengers travelling during this time.

Additionally, British Airways is providing a stage for emerging talent at the Isle of Wight Festival this year. At the event, ten brand new acts from across the UK and Europe will be given the opportunity to play to crowds of up to 55,000 from June 12 -14, 2014 on the #BAmusic Stage.

The acts, selected by British Airways, represent some of the short-haul destinations that the airline flies to from London Gatwick, bringing together artists from Spain, France, Italy, and Croatia – as well as from the UK – to the festival.

Colm Lacy, British Airways’ head of commercial at Gatwick, said: ‘We have many loyal customers attending the Isle of Wight festival who fly with us each year, and the #BAmusic stage will give them the chance to see and enjoy exciting new talent from destinations across our network.

‘We hope to see the artists we are showcasing flying with us in a few years, playing to crowds around the world.’
