easyJet, a UK-based airline, has said that it is expecting its busiest ever Christmas as over 3,700 easyJet flights and over half a million passengers are set to depart UK airports between December 20 and 29.
According to the airline, December 22 will be its busiest day over Christmas, as over 60,000 people travel from UK airports on this date alone. Across its entire network, easyJet expects to carry over 1.4 million passengers on flights between 34 countries.
Christmas holidays away from home are becoming ever more popular, and the most favoured Christmas destinations for easyJet passengers departing the UK are Geneva, Amsterdam and Barcelona, while those visiting friends and family have boosted the popularity of Belfast and Edinburgh. Popular New Year destinations are Berlin and Malaga.
Catherine Lynn, easyJet’s group commercial director, said: ‘This is set to be easyJet’s busiest ever Christmas and we are delighted that so many people have chosen to start the festive period with us. We are doing everything possible to make travel easy and friendly this Christmas by offering online check in up to 30 days in advance, mobile boarding passes and a flight tracker tool which provides live updates on every flight.’
The airline’s ‘flight tracker’ tool, available at easyjet.com and on the easyJet app, will help passengers to receive live updates on their flights.
The airline is still open for bookings for Christmas travel at www.easyJet.com, and those looking for destination inspiration can find flights tailored to their budget and dates on easyJet’s ‘Inspire me’ app, it said.
Last year, easyJet and UNICEF, a children’s organisation, celebrated the Christmas season, raising over £1 million through passenger donations. The easyJet crew across Europe dressed in Santa hats to encourage passengers to donate throughout the festive period.
