Pegasus Airlines has unveiled a pioneering new feature, offering AI-generated in-flight announcements in multiple languages.
The Turkish low-cost carrier has introduced the technology to improve the travel experience for its passengers, providing announcements in Spanish, Arabic, and Russian, in addition to English.
Launched in October 2024, the new system has already been rolled out on flights to destinations where these languages are commonly spoken. The first of these AI-generated announcements debuted on a flight to Seville, Spain, on 24 September, with passengers greeted in Spanish before receiving the usual flight details.
The multilingual announcements are designed to make the flying experience more accessible and comfortable for passengers who may not speak English fluently. This new system also marks an important milestone for Pegasus Airlines in the realm of travel technology, offering a more personalised touch.
AI-Generated Voice Technology
Developed by the Pegasus Innovation Lab, an initiative launched by the airline last year in Silicon Valley, the AI-driven system uses voice-cloning technology to replicate the voices of real Pegasus captains. Both male and female pilots’ voices have been cloned to deliver announcements specific to each flight, providing an authentic and familiar experience for passengers.
The AI-generated announcements include key flight information, such as the route, weather conditions at the destination, the captain’s name, and estimated flight duration. The AI ensures that the announcements are updated with the latest information before each flight, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
This multilingual feature represents Pegasus Airlines’ commitment to enhancing passenger experiences through technology. By offering announcements in passengers’ native languages, the airline hopes to create a more inclusive atmosphere on board, particularly for those flying to non-English-speaking countries.
Pegasus Innovation Lab Leads the Charge
The Pegasus Innovation Lab, established to explore emerging technologies in the aviation sector, developed the voice-cloning project as part of its wider mission to drive innovation within the airline industry. The lab’s focus is on leveraging AI and other cutting-edge technologies to improve operational efficiency and enhance passenger experience.
Pegasus Airlines has positioned itself as a forward-thinking airline by integrating AI into its everyday operations. The introduction of AI-generated multilingual announcements is just the latest in a series of technological advancements aimed at improving customer service and personalising the in-flight experience.
Passengers travelling on Pegasus flights to Spanish, Arabic, or Russian-speaking destinations can now expect to hear information delivered in their own language, making air travel a little more comfortable and welcoming for non-English speakers.
This new feature is expected to be expanded to further routes as the system is fine-tuned, with additional languages potentially being added in the future. As Pegasus Airlines continues to explore the possibilities of AI, it remains at the forefront of innovation in the low-cost airline industry.
For now, the use of AI-generated voices marks a significant step in improving communication and customer service, showing how technology can bring new levels of personalisation and comfort to air travel.
