Dubai is one of the greatest cities in the world- it is named the City of Gold for a reason. Located in the United Arab Emirates, it has recently been rated as the best place to live in the Middle East by Mercer, and it is the fastest growing city in the world. The hotspot has a wealth of modern shopping malls, exclusive restaurants and bars, and the hotels are renowned for being high quality. There is plenty to do and see whilst on holiday and here are the 7 best wonders of Dubai that are an absolute must-see. The…
A survey has revealed that many British holidaymakers managed to hold off booking a holiday until the London 2012 Olympic Games closing ceremony. The study, conducted by Amadeus and ForwardKeys has revealed that departures to any destination from London before the opening ceremony were 5% lower than the recorded figure in 2011. These findings highlight that holidaymakers have made a conscious decision to stay at home to support the many athletes involved with team GB, whilst showing their patriotic spirit towards Britain. After coming third in the medal table with 29 gold medals, 17 silver and 16 bronze, people have…
The number of us deciding to take our holidays in the slow lane is on the rise, according to The Passenger Shipping Association. Over the last three years there has been a marked increase in the number of Britons trading holidays on the beach for the more luxurious, and altogether more relaxed and refined, option of a European river cruise; despite recession-busting price increases. The figures for 2011 show that there were an extra 5,000 British passengers sailing the continent’s waterways, compared to the previous year. The rise, of approximately 7%, brings the total number of passengers from the UK…
Kenya is a wonderful country, and one that to me, springs up thoughts of the Masai Mara, wild animals and safari, with stunning beaches for relaxation. However, Kenya’s cities are wonderful in their own right, and worth a two-centre break at the very least. Take Nairobi for instance. A 9 hour flight from London will get you to the heart of this bustling, colourful city. Now, long-haul flying can be exhausting, so my tip would be to take advantage of great-value airport extras. I book an airport hotel wherever possible the night before flying, meaning I begin my journey relaxed…
Cheaper flights and bargain airport transfers sounds like a great thing for holiday makers. But what is actually going on in the airline industry at the moment, and how will it affect passengers in the long term? Many airlines are currently revealing low profit figures for the past twelve months, with a number of the larger airlines, including Quantas Airways, reporting a loss. At a national level, there are also signs of the current industry struggle. Low cost airlines such as Flybe are experiencing difficulties; the Exeter-based company have reported a 6.2 million pre-tax loss. Another low cost carrier, BMI…
A recent study has explored the links between the seaside, health and happiness. Researchers concluded that being by the sea can boost well being – highlighting some truth in the lyrics of the famous song “Oh we do like to be beside the seaside”. In the 2 year study by the British Psychological Society, 2750 people were asked about their experiences of different environments including the seaside, the countryside and urban parks. Researchers noted that people found seaside environments to be the most pleasurable. Participants told researchers that being by the seaside made them feel ‘relaxed’, ‘refreshed’ and ‘invigorated’. Recently,…
Blackpool’s new trams have been opened to the public after a £100million revamp. 16 brand new computerised trams have replaced some of the old heritage vehicles, although plenty of these continue to run for tourists to the resort. In addition to this, 6 miles of track has been replaced and a new tram depot has been built. Since the new trams opened last week, passengers have said that they love the new look vehicles. However, the launch has not been without teething problems. The first tram to carry paying passengers was derailed by sand in Fleetwood soon after the launch.…
