London Gatwick Airport has launched its redesigned and fully responsive website, www.gatwickairport.com, with a notably different look and feel from the earlier design. The UK’s Churches Conservation Trust, the national charity protecting historic churches, is inviting visitors to explore Britain’s rich church heritage as part of this year’s Heritage Open Days from September 12 to September 15. Over the four days, the Trust will give visitors the chance to revel in the architectural wonder and fascinating history of a variety of Medieval, Tudor, Georgian and Victorian churches. The London Assembly has opined that improving rail links, extending the Oyster card ticketing system and cutting fares will help improve the capacity optimisation at London’s major airports. In a submission to the Airports Commission, chaired by Sir Howard Davies, which is examining Britain’s future airport needs, the assembly said that better rail access to other airports serving the capital can relieve the pressure on airport capacity at Heathrow. Flybe, a UK-based regional airline, has celebrated its first major passenger landmark at Ireland West Airport Knock, in August. The low-cost airline’s 100,000th passenger travelled through the Irish airport on August 22, 2013 on a fight to Manchester. To mark the occasion, minister of state at the Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport, Michael Ring TD, presented the passenger with two free return flights to Manchester and tickets to a Manchester United match. Thomas Cook Airlines has announced a partnership with Flybe, opening up long-haul routes to regional airports across the UK via the Manchester hub. Following the partnership, Flybe’s flights from Aberdeen, Belfast, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Inverness, Isle of Man, Norwich and Southampton to Manchester will be able to connect with Thomas Cook’s Manchester routes to the Caribbean, Florida, Las Vegas, Mexico and Goa. Kent’s Lydd Airport, also known as London Ashford Airport, is on track with the multi million pound expansion plans approved by the Government in April 2013, with runway construction expected to commence early in 2014. The £25 million investment plans include the construction of a 294m runway extension plus a 150m starter extension, and a new terminal building with the capacity to handle up to 500,000 passengers a year. One-tenth of holidaymakers are unsure of the legal currency at their destination and carry the wrong currency especially when travelling on holiday to European countries, according to a survey by the International Currency Exchange (ICE). ICE plc, a UK-based foreign exchange and prepaid currency card provider, has conducted a survey of 2,000 people who went on holiday in August. The agency is now urging holidaymakers and travellers to double-check the legal currency in use at their destinations and not to assume that any European country will accept euros, according to traveldailynews.com. Norwegian Cruise Line has launched its latest Partners First initiative, ‘Norwegians Love Destinations’, in the UK. The campaign will showcase a different destination each month between August and December, highlighting the products and providing agents with insight and information to help them to sell cruise destinations to customers. Aer Lingus Regional has launched a new route to Newcastle Airport and is looking to fly up to 65,000 passengers in the first year. The route, operated by Aer Arann, will operate two daily return flights to Newcastle from Dublin Airport beginning October 24. Aer Lingus Regional has scheduled 26 flights between Dublin and Newcastle per week at prime times, offering a convenient day return for travellers.
