Expedia, a US-based online travel company, has announced its 2012 Flip Flop Report, which provides results of a survey of beach vacations that was conducted with more than 8,000 participants across the globe. The survey indicated that beach vacations continue to remain popular with holiday enthusiasts, with around 52 percent of the respondents planning on taking a beach holiday in the next 12 months. The respondents, from North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia, answered that on average they take about 7.7 days of beach holiday in a single trip. Jet2.com, a UK-based low-cost airline operating out of Leeds Bradford Airport, has announced the commencement of its service to the island of Ibiza, in Spain. The airline celebrated its initial flight to Ibiza with a party for its passengers at Glasgow Airport, in Scotland. The party featured DJ Fox MacLeod, from Karbon nightclub in Glasgow, who regaled the partying passengers with up-tempo music. Summer vacation travel that is synonymous with travelling with families, also increasingly means travelling with pets. Around half of pet owners surveyed by PetRelocation.com, a pet travel and pet transportation service provider, will be travelling with their pets this summer. In its third annual Summer Pet Travel Survey the company said that 47 percent of pet owners would be going on holiday with their pets this summer, while another 40 percent have plans to travel with their pets in 2013. Ryanair, the Ireland-based, low cost airline, has announced that it will be diverting its flights that are scheduled to arrive and depart from Turin airport in Italy, to neighbouring Cuneo Airport in Italy, during a period of disruption at Turin due to maintenance work. Turin Airport will remain closed for three days in July 2012 (on July 7, 8 and 9) for crucial runway maintenance work, and all Ryanair services that were originally scheduled to operate from or to Turin will be operated from Cuneo Airport during this period. London Stansted Airport in the UK has issued a warning for passengers travelling to and from the airport on May 23, 24, 26, 27 and 28, and June 2 to 6 2012. The airport has announced that members of the GMB and Unite unions, which represent the ground-based handling staff at the airport, will take planned periods of industrial action on those dates. Swiss International Airlines, based in Switzerland, has commenced a new service from London City Airport to EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg Airport in Basel, Switzerland, from May 21, 2012. Air travellers have expressed their rejection for use of mobile phones in flights, says a recent survey conducted by a UK-based flight comparison site, Skyscanner. Around 86 percent of those polled said that it is ‘annoying to have to listen to other people’s conversations’, while only a small minority, of 1 percent of respondents, said that they are willing to pay more for seats in airlines which offer mobile calls.
