It started with a one-way ticket from Dublin to Lisbon that somehow cost less than the return train ride from Galway to Dublin. The only catch? The final leg was scheduled to go on to Madrid—one I never intended to board. That was my first taste of hidden-city ticketing, a controversial trick that airlines have been quietly fighting for years. Hidden-city ticketing, or “skiplagging,” has become the whisper-hack of veteran travelers who know how to navigate airline pricing like it’s a stock market. The premise is simple: you buy a cheaper ticket that connects through your intended destination, and simply…

Wild Planet Trust has secured the long-term future of Paignton Zoo and Newquay Zoo by entering into an agreement with Dutch leisure company Libéma. The charity, which currently operates the South West zoos, had been seeking a buyer to ensure the continued operation and development of both attractions. Throughout the process, Paignton Zoo and Newquay Zoo remained fully operational and open to visitors. After reviewing interest from multiple potential investors, Wild Planet Trust concluded that Libéma was the ideal partner to take the zoos forward. Ownership of both sites will transfer to Libéma on 1 January for an undisclosed sum,…
By replacing the recognizable rhythm of passport stamps with systems that discreetly confirm identity through data, biometrics, and digital history—often before a traveler even boards a plane—a new era of border controls is emerging with remarkably similar features across continents. For many years, borders served as short stops before traffic resumed, much like toll booths. These days, they function similarly to distributed networks, using layered checks to scan, match, and verify identity long after the actual crossing is finished. The pressure of too much success coming at once is driving major cities to rethink tourism incentives with a sense of urgency that seems remarkably similar across continents, rather than a decline in demand. City officials can no longer put off the reevaluation that has been prompted by crowded sidewalks, growing rents, and overburdened transit systems. For many years, tourism strategy was based on the straightforward principle that more tourists equaled more money. That formula worked remarkably well to fill hotel rooms and increase headline numbers, but it silently disregarded how residents’ everyday lives were changing as they navigated their…
The fine print is becoming just as important as the flight number in air travel. The unexpected airline reorganization that will affect travelers in 2019 is developing quietly, shaped more by policy changes that add up like tiny weights on a scale than by big announcemPegasus Airlines Introduces AI-Generated Pilot Announcements in New Languagesents. Airlines have been reevaluating how accountability is distributed when plans don’t work out in recent months. Although the change appears subtle at first, when considered collectively, it indicates a reordering of expectations that passengers will become aware of as soon as something goes wrong. The demand for travel has not decreased; rather, it has grown more discerning, vigilant, and noticeably more astute. What many refer to as a slowdown is actually a price-driven reorganization as tourists covertly shift their spending to less ostentatious but more equitable locations. Booking data has shown a remarkably similar pattern across continents in recent days. When prices seem out of touch with reality, travelers are still eager to move, but they pause longer, compare more, and leave more quickly. No longer is travel acting like a seasonal luxury. Technology, values, and a growing desire for experiences that feel deliberate rather than hurried are all influencing this long-term lifestyle choice. Travels will reveal as much about identity as they do about geography by 2027. Travelers now anticipate that journeys will adjust to them rather than the other way around. Like a swarm of bees collecting thousands of signals at once, AI systems are learning preferences in silence and making remarkably accurate adjustments to itineraries, prices, and recommendations.
