The Seychelles islands are set to host its annual Seychelles Eco-Friendly Marathon for the year 2012, which will take place on February 26. The Seychelles Eco-Friendly Marathon has been taking place in Seychelles since 2008. It was initiated by Mr. Dong Chang Jeong, the Seychelles Honorary Consul General for South Korea, who is also head of the Seychelles Tourist Office in Korea. The event was conceived to contribute to Seychellois’ health and to unify Seychellois and visitors. China’s four leading airlines are refusing to pay a carbon dioxide tax under the European Union’s Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). Becoming the latest in a list of international carriers who are refusing to pay the tax. In a bid to combat carbon emissions the ETS charges were introduced on Sunday, this means all airlines using EU airports are expected to comply with the cap-and-trade scheme. Recent research conducted into alcohol prices across Europe reveals that tourists jetting off to traditional package holiday resorts are paying double for drinks, compared to those who spend their vacation in the UK. Lake District holiday cottage provider Absolute Escapes Lettings commissioned the study, which highlighted the effect that rising prices have had on British travellers to the Eurozone. Average alcohol prices in the UK were significantly lower than in popular sun spots such as Spain and Greece, even when promotions like happy hours were taken into account. Following the recent purchase of struggling firm BMI, Virgin Atlantic have branded British Airways owner IAG anticompetitive, after gaining an overall majority of runway slots at Heathrow Airport. The airline has claimed that IAG – which formed earlier this year when BA and Iberia merged – could use its newly found domination to push prices up for British travellers resulting from a lack of consumer choice.
