Today the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has released preliminary figures for international visitor arrivals into Asia and the Pacific for January 2011, showing a 7 percent year-on-year expansion. South Asia set the pace with the largest arrival growth from among the four sub-regions covered for January 2011, with a gain of 14%. Sri Lanka (+46%), Nepal (+26%), the Maldives (+18%), and India (+10%) each set new records for the month (year-on-year). The Foreign Office advice still remains the same on travel to Tokyo and northeast Japan. It has been revealed that more than 500 Britons in this area have been given iodine tablets to counteract the effects of radiation leaking from the country’s crippled nuclear facility. HolidayExtras.com has introduced ‘Extra Days Parking’ in response to high demand from holiday makers who are bucking the age old trend of taking seven or 14 night trips and opting for longer stays instead. The travel add-ons company has seen a huge increase in customers wanting to book 16 to 24 days parking to accommodate their longer holidays abroad. Reports in the media suggest that Which? is planning to lodge a super-complaint with the Office of Fair Trading, asking it to investigate the level of fees imposed by some companies when customers pay for flights with credit or debit cards.
