A new study by the UK’s fastest growing online independent travel agent has revealed that a tenth of British holidaymakers have previously planned or attempted to travel abroad with an expiring passport, only to discover they were unable to do so. According to a study by a leading online independent travel agency, 8% of British holidaymakers have face passport expiry issues when attempting to travel abroad in the past. Heathrow employees trekked through a jungle, cycled across Britain and sang their hearts out on the way to raising a fantastic £205,000 for their 2010 Charity of the Year, Help for Heroes. This year they’ll be hoping to break that total for new staff cause Macmillan Cancer Support. An investigation has been launched after a Flybe aircraft lost a wheel forcing a dramatic emergency landing. The Flybe Bombardier Q 400 was forced to turn back to Exeter International Airport, Devon, shortly after departing when a wheel underneath the wing came off during “retraction”. Thirty-nine petrified passengers and the four crew on board the flight bound for Newcastle International Airport all escaped serious injury. London Stansted has become home to one of the world’s most modern cargo aircraft as FedEx Express unveiled its new B777F aircraft at its Stansted hub yesterday (28 February 2011). The world’s largest holiday airline, Thomson Airways, has begun the biggest charter fleet overhaul in British aviation history today (Wednesday 2nd February) with the first of its 22 new Boeing Next-Generation 737-800s flying into East Midlands airport. The delivery signals the start of the upgrade of a third of Thomson Airways’ fleet and the airline will receive four of the 22 aircraft by this summer, with all 22 delivered by the summer of 2013. Reports in the media suggest that Which? is planning to lodge a super-complaint with the Office of Fair Trading, asking it to investigate the level of fees imposed by some companies when customers pay for flights with credit or debit cards. Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, has confirmed that the DAA airport monopoly has turned down Ryanair’s offer to grow its Shannon traffic from 300,000p.a. to 1.3m p.a. passengers over the next five years, proving yet again that Dublin Airport doesn’t care about Shannon and can’t/won’t deliver traffic growth at Shannon. The DAA has overseen the collapse of Shannon traffic from 3.6m passengers in 2007 to just 1.7m passengers in 2010: Under a five year low cost agreement Ryanair grew its Shannon traffic from 400,000 to 1.9m in 2008/09 (prior to the Govt’s €10 tourist tax).
