When it comes to popping the big question, it seems the rugged landscape of England’s largest National Park is more popular than anywhere else in the UK.

The Lake District has been revealed as the top place for getting down on one knee, beating capital cities Edinburgh and London.

The Lake District was the only place in the top five that was not a city destination.

According to the research by eHarmoney.co.uk, the park was followed closely by Brighton, the bohemian sea-side city.

Dr Gian Gonzaga, relationship scientist and senior director of research director of the online matchmaker said: ‘Brighton is a perfect spot for couples who thrive in the City but love the bohemian vibe and the town’s seafront quaintness.’

However it’s not all about nature and sea air, in third place was the historic city of Bath.

The city famous for its Roman Baths, and beautiful architecture came ahead of the Scottish capital Edinburgh.

Popping the question in Edinburgh Castle is popular with is spectacular views, according to Dr Gonzaga.

Surprisingly London was fifth, despite its buzzing city nightlife and historic architecture.

It has also been revealed that Paris was the number one place to visit on Valentines Day, according to lastminute.com.

Paris was followed closely by Rome, New York, Barcelona and Las Vegas as top Valentines destinations.
