Flybe, one of the UK-based leading European regional airlines, has announced the launch of a new year-round route between Cardiff and Munich starting August 31, 2015; as well as the addition of an extra 22 flights to seven of its existing key routes.
The route expansion comes after of the arrival of Flybe’s second 118-seat Embraer 195 jet aircraft to be based at the Airport. The airline operates an extensive year- round network following the opening of its new base at Cardiff Airport in June. A colourful German themed experience has been planned at the Airport to mark the launch of the new route on Monday.
The new flights to and from Munich will operate Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturdays, with one way fares available from £44.99 each way including taxes and charges.
The route expansion to Flybe’s current schedule includes adding flights to destinations such as Cork – boosting the current Saturday service with a second weekly flight on Tuesdays; Dublin – increasing to double daily flights from Monday to Friday and addition of an early morning flight on Saturdays; Dusseldorf – adding three more flights a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to boost the current Saturday service; Edinburgh – increasing to twice daily service from Monday to Friday, and Sundays; Glasgow now operating five flights a week from Monday to Thursday, and Sundays; Milan Malpensa – expanding to three flights a week with addition of Thursdays and Sundays; and Paris Charles de Gaulle – introducing new daily service, up from the existing four flights a week.
Paul Simmons, Chief Commercial Officer at Flybe, commented: ‘We have been very pleased with the level of support received for our new routes from Cardiff since opening our new base. I am delighted that we are now increasing our presence with this inaugural route to Munich and with the many additional frequencies we are now offering on seven of our most popular routes.’
Debra Barber, Managing Director at Cardiff Airport, added: ‘We are very excited to see the arrival of the second aircraft which will really strengthen the Flybe network with more choice for customers offering convenience and value for money. The increased frequency on key routes and the addition of Munich is particularly beneficial for those travelling to and from Wales on business.’
Flights to Chambery and Geneva will restart operation during the winter, with weekly Saturday flights starting on December 19, bringing the total number of destinations served by Flybe from Cardiff to 13, the Airport said in a release.
