Vialattea and Bardonecchia Ski, two of the leading ski areas in the Turin Alps, made their first joint appearance at ITB Berlin, one of the world’s most important travel trade shows. Presenting an integrated offering of over 500 kilometres of ski slopes, the partnership highlights more than a century of alpine heritage combined with modern tourism development. The joint presence marks a significant step in promoting the Turin Alps on the international stage.

Since 2024, both ski areas, owned by iCON Infrastructure Partners, have formed a strategic partnership to enhance their combined appeal. This collaboration allows skiers to access both resorts under preferential conditions, creating a more connected and attractive experience for visitors. By uniting their strengths, Vialattea and Bardonecchia Ski aim to strengthen their position within the global winter tourism market.

This partnership enhances and diversifies the tourism range of the Turin Alps: two complementary destinations  together accounting 64% of Piedmont’s mountain tourism.

During the 2024 – 2025 winter season, 70% of international visitors choosing winter holidays in Piedmont stayed in Vialattea and Bardonecchia, further strengthening the global positioning of the Turin Alps.

An International Benchmark for Interconnected Skiing

Vialattea stretches across Italy and France, connecting seven resorts in the Province of Turin -Sestriere, Sauze d’Oulx, Sansicario, Cesana, Claviere, Pragelato and Oulx – with the French resort of Montgenèvre.

With 400 kilometres of slopes across 313 runs (9 green, 98 blue, 169 red and 37 black), served by 70 lifts with an uphill capacity exceeding 75,000 people per hour, Vialattea offers a truly seamless skiing experience. Visitors can set off from one resort and explore the entire area – crossing two countries in a single day – without ever taking off their skis.

The ski area ranges from 1,400 to 2,800 metres in altitude, with 80% of the terrain located 1,900 metres above. This ensures reliable snow conditions throughout the season, as well as consistently low temperatures ideal for high-quality snowmaking.

Complementing this extensive network, Bardonecchia Ski offers a further 100 kilometres of slopes across the areas of Campo Smith, Jafferau and Melezet, ranging from 1,312 to 2,800 metres in elevation. The resort features 43 runs — approximately 50% blue, 43% red, 7% black, plus four green beginner slopes — served by 23 lifts.

Blending the authentic charm of a traditional Alpine town with modern ski infrastructure, Bardonecchia delivers a complete mountain experience. From sport and relax to mountain dining, entertainment and a lively village atmosphere, visitors can enjoy an accessible and genuinely welcoming Alpine escape.

Thanks to the Ski Shuttle Vialattea–Bardonecchia connection between Sauze d’Oulx and Bardonecchia, skiers can enjoy a combined total of over 500 kilometers of slopes.

Olympic Heritage and International Sporting Tradition

Vialattea boasts a prestigious sporting legacy. Its ski-area hosted the alpine events of the 2006 Winter Olympics, the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 1997, and have staged 70 Alpine Ski World Cup races since 1967.

Bardonecchia  hosted competitions too during the 2006 Winter Olympics and regularly stages international events, including Alpine Ski Europa Cup races as well as Telemark World Championships and World Cup competitions, returning this year. In 2025, the resort hosted the Winter World University Games, leaving a lasting legacy in the form of the Bardo Race Stadium.

Both ski areas were official venues of the Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025, with Sestriere (Vialattea) hosting alpine skiing events and Bardonecchia staging snowboard competitions.

€28 Million Investment in Next-Generation Snowmaking

The synergy between Vialattea and Bardonecchia has boosted a multi-year investment program focused on upgrading lift systems, services and snowmaking infrastructure across both areas, further strengthening the international appeal of the Turin Alps destination.

In recent seasons, the two ski areas have recorded an average of over 1.5 million first lift entries and approximately 15 million total lift rides throughout the winter.

Together, they are implementing an extraordinary multi-year program to modernize their snowmaking networks, with total investments amounting to €28 million.

Vialattea launched its snowmaking upgrade project in the Sestriere area in summer 2023. The plan includes pipeline replacement, installation of state-of-the-art snow generators, modernization of pump stations with interconnected reservoirs and upgraded management software. The five-phase project is well underway, with the first three phases completed. From summer 2026, the investment plan will extend to Sauze d’Oulx, Cesana-Sansicario and Cesana-Claviere, ensuring consistently high-quality snow coverage and more reliable season planning.

Colomion S.p.A. achieved major snowmaking upgrades at Bardonecchia between 2024 and 2025, refurbishing and enhancing all five pumping stations across the Colomion, Les Arnauds and Melezet areas. Over 100 new fixed, next-generation snow generators became operational for the 2025–2026 season. Two artificial reservoirs—one expanded and one newly designed—are also part of the development plan. Additional upgrades to be completed within the year will replace mobile generators and extend coverage to previously unserved areas, ensuring 80% snowmaking coverage across key slopes.

    Environmental Sustainability: 100% Renewable Energy

The new infrastructure significantly reduces energy consumption, with savings of up to 48% per compressed-air generator and enhanced efficiency in utilizing optimal cold-weather windows for snow production.

All purchased electricity is generated 100% from renewable sources, ensuring that every lift and snowmaking system operates on clean energy. Technological upgrades also deliver substantial water and energy savings.

Snowmaking relies on a natural process: water is mixed with cold air, crystallizing into snow. The water used does not draw from public drinking supplies and is gradually returned to the environment during the spring melt.

    Accessibility and International-Level Services

Vialattea and Bardonecchia offer excellent international accessibility, located just one hour from Turin Airport and approximately two hours from Milan, Genoa and Cuneo airports. Direct access via the A32 motorway and rail connections to Oulx and Bardonecchia—served by free shuttle services to hotels and slopes—ensure seamless travel.

Trenitalia, the ski areas’ Official Green Carrier, offers lift pass discounts to visitors arriving by high-speed, Intercity or regional trains. From Oulx, the Vialattea Link provides direct connections to the ski resorts.

Together, the two ski areas feature approximately 1,000 certified ski instructors, freestyle and ski-cross snowparks, dedicated children’s areas and over 40 mountain restaurants showcasing renowned Alpine cuisine.

Thanks to high altitudes and excellent snow conditions, March and the first two weeks of April represent an ideal time to ski in Vialattea and Bardonecchia, offering longer sunny days, pleasant temperatures and attractive off-peak rates. Both ski areas will remain open until April 12, 2026.
