The Cliffs of Moher have officially secured their status as Ireland’s most sought-after landmark, according to a recent study that reveals significant trends in online tourism interest. With an astounding 220,200 monthly global searches, this iconic coastal attraction outshines all others, demonstrating its magnetic appeal to travellers worldwide.

Conducted by Baldwin Digital, the study evaluated 119 landmarks across Ireland, focusing on those with a minimum four-star rating on TripAdvisor and over 500 reviews. Each landmark was ranked based on criteria such as TripAdvisor review counts, website traffic, average monthly searches, and social media presence, particularly Instagram hashtags.

Cliffs of Moher: A Natural Marvel

Claiming the top spot with an impressive score of 92.99, the Cliffs of Moher’s prominence is not just due to its breathtaking views. The location also boasts a significant presence on Instagram, with over 729,412 posts tagged under #cliffsofmoher, making it a favourite among social media users eager to showcase its dramatic scenery.

Dublin’s Guinness Storehouse came in a close second, achieving a score of 89.06. The famous brewery’s tour remains immensely popular, bolstered by an impressive review count of 48,979 on TripAdvisor and a robust organic monthly traffic of 119,000 visits to its website.

Trinity College Dublin and the Book of Kells

Taking third place is Trinity College Dublin, scoring 87.00. This historic university attracts the highest monthly website traffic of any Irish landmark, with 162,000 organic visits. Additionally, its famed Book of Kells & Old Library follows closely in fourth place. This attraction garners significant attention with an average of 132,300 Google searches per month and a review count of 24,087 on TripAdvisor.

While it did not dominate in terms of search traffic or reviews, its Instagram popularity is staggering, with an impressive 1,869,098 posts under #wildatlanticway. This demonstrates how social media can drive interest in vast and scenic travel experiences.

    Key Highlights from the Rankings

    • Kilmainham Gaol Museum and Dublin Castle also made the list, securing sixth and seventh places respectively, both showcasing Dublin’s rich history and cultural significance.
    • Blarney Castle & Gardens and Temple Bar followed closely, with the latter being a vibrant cultural hub known for its lively atmosphere.
    • Kylemore Abbey, the final entry in the top ten, continues to attract visitors with its stunning architecture and picturesque gardens.

Mark Baldwin, director and founder of Baldwin Digital, noted, “This study offers fascinating insights into which of Ireland’s stunning landmarks resonate most with audiences globally. While natural sites like the Cliffs of Moher and the Wild Atlantic Way shine on social media, Dublin’s landmarks such as the Guinness Storehouse showcase their popularity through user reviews.”

Ireland’s tourism landscape is evolving, with landmarks like the Cliffs of Moher leading the charge in online searches and social media engagement. As international travel continues to rise, these attractions are not only drawing attention but also inviting travellers to experience the rich cultural and natural beauty that Ireland has to offer.
