The Dominican Republic is gaining popularity amongst travellers, says Expedia, a US-based online travel company, in a recently published report.
In the report the company claims that the Dominican Republic has become the second most popular destination for US travellers journeying to Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Dominican Republic is also the largest Caribbean destination, and is just a flight away from the US cities of Miami, New York City, Atlanta, in addition to several of the major cities in Europe.
Miriam Hernandez, the head of the Dominic Republic market for Expedia, said, ‘The Dominican Republic has never been more popular for US travellers, especially those from the east coast, but surprisingly, room night costs have remained mostly flat, making it one of the best deals for getting to the beach this summer.’
Travellers that book Expedia trips to the Dominican Republic usually do so 52 days in advance, and from five feeder cities in the US, including New York, Miami, Boston, Philadelphia, and Chicago.
Punta Cana is one of the most popular destinations, according to those tourists that were surveyed, with around 50 percent of them making bookings for the resort. Santo Domingo, the capital city, is also popular, with 13 percent of tourists booking the destination through the company website.
Flights between London and Santo Domingo commence from £565.22; flights between London and Punta Cana commence from £573.99 one way; flights from London to Puerto Plata commence from £657.40 one way.
Among the hotels and resorts offering all-inclusive holidays in the Dominican Republic are the Sanctuary Cap Cana, Zoetry Agua Punta Cana, and Majestic Elegance Punta Cana. For families, the most favoured places to stay are the Reserve at Paradisus Palma Real, Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe, and Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana.
The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana is a favourite gaming destination for tourists.
