For UK travellers who are heeding the government promotion and taking a ‘staycation’, visiting Scotland this summer may be a rewarding experience.

Scotland has lined-up of a number of cultural events for the holiday period that it claims will keep the whole family fully entertained.

The Dundonald Highland Games will be held on August 4, 2012, at Ayrshire’s Dundonald Castle, and traditionally includes a family entertainment night with highland dancing, competitions, rides for children, and a 10km Race in the fields below the Dundonald Castle.

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo event will take place in Edinburgh from August 3 to 25, 2012, and will be showcasing around 1,000 performers, and a specially commissioned 90-minute fireworks display.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe will be open to public between August 3 and 27, 2012. The world’s largest arts festival, the event will feature thousands of performers taking to a number of stages that are set up for the event all over Edinburgh. The event will be featuring entertainment options that include comedy performances, theatrical performances, dances, music, operas, and exhibitions.

Another Scottish attraction is Amazonia, an indoor tropical rainforest located in the Strathclyde Country Park, in Motherwell. The park hosts a range of interesting species of animals and plants, offering visitors an opportunity to enjoy a slice of tropical life inside the hi-tech biosphere.

Accommodation in Scotland includes hotels for every budget, as well as resorts, bed-and breakfast establishments and camping sites. Among the more unusual places to stay are castles, churches, lighthouse keeper’s cottages, and working farms.
