Saudi Arabia has embarked on a groundbreaking journey to capture the interest of Indian tourists with its innovative ‘Shaandaar Saudi’ campaign.
Launched as part of Vision 2030, this initiative seeks to diversify Saudi Arabia’s economy by enticing Indian tourists through unique culinary experiences, easier visa processes, and enriched travel offers.
Vision 2030 and Its Focus on India
Saudi Arabia’s ‘Shaandaar Saudi’ campaign, unveiled in Mumbai, is a strategic move aligned with its Vision 2030 to diversify the kingdom’s economy. The ambition is to draw 150 million tourists by 2030, with a target of 7.5 million from India alone. This initiative aims to transform Saudi Arabia into a year-round destination for Indian families, culture enthusiasts, adventurers, and food lovers. The campaign particularly highlights Indian-friendly culinary options to cater to the Indian palate, emphasising the importance of food in travel decisions.
Culinary Delights and Unique Destinations
Saudi Arabia is keen on making Indian tourists feel right at home by promoting a range of Indian restaurants and vegetarian-friendly eateries. “Food plays a significant role in travel,” said Anand Menon, vice president of trade and distribution, Asia Pacific for the Saudi Tourism Authority. Meanwhile, the campaign also showcases destinations such as Diriyah, the Red Sea, Jeddah, AlUla, and Riyadh. From ancient landmarks to futuristic cities, these places offer unique experiences tailored to different tourist segments. Saudi Arabia ensures a comprehensive travel experience with options that cater to diverse interests.
Visa Processes and Travel Offers
An essential aspect of the ‘Shaandaar Saudi’ campaign includes streamlining visa processes for Indian tourists. The introduction of Tasheer kiosks during an 8-day showcase in Mumbai allows for on-the-spot visa applications, processed within 48 hours. Indian travelers with valid visas for the U.S., UK, or Schengen nations can also avail eVisas and visa-on-arrival benefits in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, Indian travelers on Saudia and Flynas benefit from a free stopover visa valid for up to 96 hours.
Connectivity Increasing Air Travel
Air connectivity between India and Saudi Arabia has seen significant improvement. Currently, there are 330 direct weekly flights connecting 12 major Indian hubs to Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam, operated by eight airlines. This development aids the initiative’s goal of increasing tourist inflow. Promotional deals such as Saudia’s ‘buy one, get 50% off’ on business class and 15% off economy tickets enhance the appeal to Indian travelers looking for cost-effective travel options.
New Experiences for Indian Tourists
To further entice Indian visitors, Saudi Arabia offers experiences specifically designed with them in mind. Hospitality, festivals, and myriad activities available throughout the year form part of this initiative. The campaign’s immersive approach ensures Indian travelers encounter a blend of traditional and modern experiences, crafted to create memorable journeys. This approach underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to not only attract but also maintain a robust Indian tourist demographic.
Fostering Stronger Tourism Ties
The campaign comes at a time of strengthening tourism ties between Saudi Arabia and India. Recent meetings between tourism ministers of both nations have discussed enhancing youth training and development. This collaboration aims to foster growth within the tourism sectors of both countries, creating mutual benefits. Saudi Arabia’s efforts highlight a foresighted approach to embracing India’s tourism potential, while also considering the future dynamics of the tourism industry.
This cooperation opens avenues for development beyond mere tourism, inviting reciprocal investments in human resources and skill development aimed at sustaining long-term tourism growth.
India’s Emerging Middle Class
Saudi Arabia’s focus on India also taps into the rapidly growing Indian middle class. With 65% of the population under 35, this expanding demographic seeks new travel experiences. By 2047, the middle class will comprise a significant portion of the population. As such, India presents an ideal market for tourism-driven economies like Saudi Arabia. The campaign leverages this potential, aiming to attract younger generations of Indian travelers with varied experiences tailored to their preferences.
Saudi Arabia’s concerted efforts to attract Indian tourists reflect its strategic foresight in tapping into a burgeoning market.
As the kingdom strives to achieve its Vision 2030 goals, the alignment with India’s tourism potential will likely yield mutually enriching outcomes.
