Etihad Airways announces fourth year-round daily service to London Heathrow

The new service adds a mid-morning departure from Abu Dhabi and a late evening departure from London Heathrow. The move follows the introduction of additional seasonal services this summer.

Robin Kamark, Commercial Officer, Etihad Aviation Group Chief, said: ‘The flagship Abu Dhabi to London route is tremendously popular with point-to-point business and leisure travellers, and those transiting beyond our hub and we recently boosted frequencies between the two cities to meet increased demand at peak travel times. Adding a fourth year-round flight will provide much needed capacity and optimised timings and easy connections to key destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia.

‘The new service demonstrates our commitment to the crucially important UK market, and ensures we provide our customers with all the benefits of a next-generation fleet across all 42 weekly departures to and from the United Kingdom.’

Travel News has reported that the promotional campaign, a global tour spanning seven countries, has been designed to attract the maximum number of tourists for the event, which is scheduled for November 2 to 4 at the Yas Marina Circuit. Other important motor-sport events, specific to the countries that will be visited, will also be included in the travel plan. The tour is to cover the UK, Germany, Saudi Arabia, France, China, Australia and Russia. Many local motor-sport events in Abu Dhabi could also be added to the itinerary.

Other key Abu Dhabi sports sponsorships are already underway, including English Premier League Club, Manchester City’s summer tour of Asia, with TCA Abu Dhabi as the headline sponsor.

August sees 14% passenger growth at Abu Dhabi Airport

Abu Dhabi Airports Company today released the traffic report for Abu Dhabi International Airport for the month of August 2011, recording a robust 14% growth over last year’s figures with passenger traffic reaching 1.09 million. Cargo traffic was also on the rise reaching 39,841 tons, with an increase of 5% compared to the month of August 2011.

The double-digit growth recorded at Abu Dhabi International Airport during August is mainly attributed to the healthy growth of all airlines operating at the airport, while also supported by the Eid holiday. Up to August, we have welcomed 8,000,000 passengers through our airport, providing efficient and high-quality services. We continuously monitor the market and the travel trends to ensure that Abu Dhabi International Airport offers enhanced connectivity and an increased number of destinations and frequencies to all travellers.”

London, Jeddah, Doha, Bangkok, and Manila were the top five routes from Abu Dhabi International Airport during the month of August, generating 21% of the total passenger traffic at the capital’s airport.
