Active Travel Group has made a significant pledge to reduce its carbon emissions by half before 2030, marking a major milestone in its sustainability journey.

This initiative is detailed in their first annual sustainability report, focusing on pivotal areas such as climate impact, conservation efforts, and community engagement.

Active Travel Group (ATG) has announced its bold commitment to reducing carbon emissions by half within the next decade. The company’s inaugural sustainability report outlines its primary focus on climate, conservation, and community. This dynamic approach is spearheading not only environmental accountability but also a broadened commitment to social responsibility.

ATG was a founding signatory to the Glasgow Declaration, which was unveiled during COP26 in 2021 in Scotland. Since then, they have meticulously worked towards their environmental goals. The company has successfully decreased their Scope One and Two carbon emissions by 16%, demonstrating significant progress in reducing direct and indirect emissions related to their operations.

The introduction of electric vehicles forms a crucial element of their operational strategy, ensuring reduction in emissions associated with transportation. This aligns with global trends, as businesses worldwide are increasingly adopting electric fleets to meet sustainability objectives.

Wilderness staff actively contribute more than 800 hours annually to volunteer projects. This effort is encapsulated in their ‘Big 100’ volunteer programme. Their endeavours in community engagement not only enhance the environmental landscape but also foster a sense of responsibility among employees and stakeholders alike.

Craig Burton, the Group Chief Executive, reinforced this ambition by stating their plans for providing leadership and action in key sustainability areas. He acknowledged the industry’s challenges, stressing the need for intensified efforts towards sustainability while celebrating recent achievements as a noteworthy testament to the company’s dedication and the hard work of teams across the UK and Ireland.

The integration of sustainability into travel products offers a competitive advantage in the market. ATG’s blend of environmental responsibility with enhanced customer experiences underscores their industry acclaim. This positions them well to cater to an environmentally conscious clientele.

With ongoing efforts to innovate and adapt, their strategic focus remains on building a sustainable future. By fostering strong partnerships and continuously evolving their business practices, ATG is determined to set benchmarks for best practices in sustainable travel.

ATG recognises that collaboration across the travel industry is crucial to achieving significant sustainability outcomes. They are actively engaging with other industry players to share knowledge, resources, and strategies that can enhance sustainability efforts across the sector, reinforcing a collective approach towards a more sustainable travel future.

Active Travel Group’s sustainability strategies are setting a high benchmark within the travel industry, highlighting the importance of actionable goals.

Their commitment not only promotes ecological responsibility but also demonstrates a successful alignment of business growth with environmental stewardship.
