Bond Travel, a noteworthy name in the travel industry, celebrates its 40th anniversary, marking four decades of exceptional service.
With enduring dedication and a customer-focused approach, this family-owned agency looks back on its journey, serving leisure and business travellers alike.
Bond Travel, a family-run travel agency, is commemorating its remarkable milestone of 40 years in business. Established in Urmston, Greater Manchester, the agency remains steadfast in its original location, while also operating a secondary branch in Lymm. This family enterprise is led by founder Pat Bond, with her daughter Jayne having joined the team in 1995 and now holding the position of partner.
In honour of its anniversary, the agency has initiated a competition encouraging clients to upload holiday photos displaying Bond Travel ticket wallets on its Facebook page. Each month, a standout entry will be awarded a prize, culminating in a grand prize of a holiday voucher in June 2025. The agency also celebrated with a gathering, inviting customers to enjoy refreshments.
Founded on June 18, 1984, by Pat Bond after her tenure as an agent abroad, the agency initially faced licensing obstacles. Pat recollects, “When I first opened, I was only allowed to sell British holidays as I had to apply for an Abta licence.” Despite having international experience, Abta’s requirements meant she needed to hire qualified staff. This foundational period was critical to establishing the trust and performance Bond Travel is known for today.
Over the decades, Bond Travel has broadened its scope, evolving into a specialist in South African leisure travel while also gaining a foothold in business travel. It has catered to both small and large corporate clients, offering specialised services such as corporate conferencing abroad. The strategic expansion was pivotal in maintaining relevance in a competitive market.
The launch of the agency’s branch in Lymm coincided unfortunately with the onset of Covid-19. However, the agency has demonstrated significant resilience, reinvigorating its Lymm operations post-pandemic. Pat Bond attributes their survival to strong client relationships and a passion for the industry, which has enabled them to withstand challenging periods, including the global health crisis.
Long-term staff form the backbone of Bond Travel. Stephanie Hughes, who joined in 1992, is celebrated as a key member of the team. Jayne’s involvement post-graduation transformed an initial short-term role into a lasting career, illustrating the agency’s familial ethos. Pat expresses gratitude for her dedicated team and the continuity of the family business under Jayne’s partnership.
While Pat Bond remains actively involved in the business, there is no imminent retirement on the horizon. Her ongoing contribution ensures the retention of the agency’s core values and customer-centric approach. As Bond Travel looks to the future, it remains committed to maintaining its high standards and nurturing its client relationships.
Bond Travel’s commitment to trust and excellence has cemented its place in the industry over the past 40 years.
As it continues to thrive, the agency remains a testament to the power of strong industry expertise and community bonds.
