Major Travel is embarking on a significant expansion across the UK market.

This follows an investment from InteleTravel, which acquired a majority stake in the company.

Major Travel, a prominent B2B operator, is set to expand its engagement with travel agents throughout the UK following a strategic investment from InteleTravel. This move sees InteleTravel acquiring a majority stake in the London-based specialist, enabling Major Travel to grow while keeping its operational independence intact.

Qasim Gulamhusein, the Managing Director of Major Travel, discussed the planned enhancements to agency partnerships during a webcast. He confirmed that the company is on a recruitment drive for business development managers (BDMs) in the UK, and is set to expand into Ireland, strengthening relationships with agents there. Upcoming initiatives include a series of events to celebrate Major Travel’s 50th anniversary, aiming to foster closer connections with their partners.

The organisation plans to significantly increase its workforce, aiming to double its current headcount by the year’s end. With approximately 90 employees already across the UK, Cape Town, and the Philippines, these plans underline a strong commitment to growth. Employee expansion is expected to support Major Travel’s growing operations and facilitate their market ambitions across new regions, notably in Ireland and the US.

Since Qasim Gulamhusein’s leadership began in 2017, Major Travel has shifted focus from US flight-only sales to trade-specific tailor-made packages. These packages, which accounted for only 10% of the business in 2017, now constitute around 80% of their operations and boast an average booking value exceeding £5,000. Anticipated enhancements to product offerings and agent services are central to the strategy for future growth.

James Ferrara, co-founder of InteleTravel, emphasised the strategic nature of the investment, highlighting it as a confidence boost for Major Travel’s team. The objective is to maintain equal terms for all agent collaborations, preserving the operational independence of Major Travel while capitalising on growth opportunities presented by the investment.

Enhancements to Major Travel’s proprietary booking platform, Major Go, are underway. These developments aim to improve user experience and streamline operations as the company enters new markets, including Ireland and the US. The focus is on creating a more intuitive and accessible service for agents.

With its strategic expansion and product innovation, Major Travel aspires to become the leading tailor-made long-haul tour operator in the UK. By enhancing product quality and agent support, the company seeks to offer competitive pricing and service, underpinned by their expanded global footprint.

Major Travel’s new phase of growth is underscored by strategic investments and partnerships.

This expansion is designed to enhance their market position and service offerings.
