The team behind Not Just Travel is preparing for a remarkable journey to Peru, aiming to raise funds for breast cancer awareness through a challenging Inca Trail trek. Their goal is to conquer 25 miles in honour of breast cancer victims and survivors.
Scheduled from September 29 to October 9, the hike will see more than 20 participants pushing beyond their limits in support of The Pink Ribbon Foundation. This initiative, titled ‘The Breast Trek Ever’, reflects their dedication to making a meaningful impact.
A Mission with Purpose
Not Just Travel (NJT) is embarking on a quest that transcends ordinary travel. A group exceeding 20 members is poised to undertake a formidable challenge on the Inca Trail in Peru. This expedition is not merely a trek; it represents an opportunity to support The Pink Ribbon Foundation, aiming to raise £10,000 for breast cancer victims and survivors.
The challenge, affectionately named ‘The Breast Trek Ever’, is set to cover 25 miles over four days, and is scheduled from September 29 to October 9. This venture is conducted in partnership with G Adventures, bringing together travel consultants and corporate team members in a shared journey of dedication and compassion.
The Journey to Machu Picchu
Participants are preparing for an experience that combines physical endurance with emotional resilience. The Inca Trail is renowned for its challenging paths and breathtaking vistas, culminating at the iconic Machu Picchu. To reach this historic site, the group will navigate rugged terrain, reaching elevations up to 4,200 metres.
One of the climactic moments awaits on the third night, as the team rises at 2 am, embarking on the final stretch to the Sun Gate. This symbolic passage marks the culmination of their journey, a testament to their perseverance and determination in the face of adversity.
Honouring Heroes
The charity drive holds personal significance for the team, particularly for Rachael Coyne, who has personally endured the battles of breast cancer.
Laura Simpson, NJT’s Head of Experience and Operations, reflects on this mission’s personal impact. Sharing this adventure with her daughter Ambar, she draws inspiration from loved ones lost to cancer and those still courageously fighting.
Simpson, joined by her daughter Ambar, expressed, “The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu has always been on my bucket list. It’s going to be an amazing experience, especially sharing it with my daughter Ambar and the incredible NJT team.”
Training for Triumph
In preparation, the team committed to rigorous training sessions. Notably, they received the guidance of Not Just Travel brand ambassador Daley Thompson, a double Olympic champion, who shared his expertise in strength and endurance training with the participants.
Laura Simpson notes the honour of training with a champion, stating, “The expedition is not just a physical challenge, but a testament to the power of teamwork and purpose. It was an honour to get tips from Daley – there’s no one better when it comes to strength and endurance training.”
A Shared Adventure of Significance
G Adventures’ global purpose specialist, Tom Buck, commended the NJT team’s commitment, highlighting the transformative potential of their endeavour. He remarked, “The time for training is over, and now the real adventure begins. It’s incredible to see this group come together for such a meaningful cause.”
This journey exemplifies how a communal effort can foster a significant positive impact, both for the participants and the beneficiaries of their fundraising efforts. Lives will be transformed through both the trek and the support provided to the Pink Ribbon Foundation.
Lisa Allen, spokesperson for The Pink Ribbon Foundation, noted, “Breast cancer touches so many of us in different ways. It’s an honour to be the charity partner for this remarkable journey, and we are truly grateful to Not Just Travel for their incredible efforts.”
Concluding Thoughts
As the NJT team embarks on this monumental trek, the hope remains high for their success in both completing the journey and raising funds.
The upcoming days along the Inca Trail will serve as both a literal and metaphorical pathway to support those affected by breast cancer, aiming to make a lasting difference in their lives.
As anticipation builds, the Not Just Travel team’s commitment to both physical endurance and charitable support is evident.
Their endeavour along the Inca Trail serves not only as a journey towards personal achievement but also as a significant contribution to breast cancer charities.
