British holidaymakers are increasingly choosing Spain for longer holidays, significantly boosting their spending during these trips.

    • In the first two months of 2024, British tourists spent a staggering €2.2 billion in Spain, reflecting a 31.57% increase from the previous year.
    • Overall, Spain saw a total of €13.2 billion expenditure by incoming tourists during this period, marking a 25.66% rise compared to 2023.
    • On average, UK visitors extended their stay in Spain to 8.2 days, an increase of 7% over the previous year.
    • The British manage to be the biggest spenders, surpassing even the Germans, with a daily average outlay of €153.

According to new data released by the Spanish Tourist Office, the trend of British holidaymakers opting for Spain is on a significant rise, both in terms of duration and expenditure. Tourists from the United Kingdom have been spending more time enjoying the sunny shores and vibrant culture of Spain in 2024.

In just the first two months of this year, British visitors expended €2.2 billion, a substantial increase of 31.57% compared to the same period in 2023. This surge is not limited to British travellers; total tourist spending in Spain reached €13.2 billion, up by 25.66% compared to the previous year.

The British tourists’ typical stay in Spain now averages 8.2 days. This is a noticeable increase from 2023, where the average stay was notably shorter. This inclination for longer stays has naturally resulted in increased expenditure per trip. The average amount spent per trip has risen to €1,260, reflecting a 13% uplift from the previous year’s figures.

Moreover, British holidaymakers have consistently proven to be the top spenders in Spain, with an average daily spend of €153. This represents a 5.67% increase from 2023. Their spending power outpaces that of other nations, with Germany trailing behind at €1.5 billion.

This data underscores the pivotal role British tourists play in Spain’s tourism economy, where their contributions are both quantitatively significant and increasingly substantial. The desire for longer vacations coupled with increased spending per day exemplifies the burgeoning importance of this demographic to the region.

The prolonged stays and increased expenditure by British tourists highlight their growing impact on Spain’s tourism economy.
