Carnival Cruise Line is poised to enhance its presence at Grand Bahama’s Celebration Key with a $100 million pier expansion. This substantial investment will allow the port to accommodate four Excel-class ships simultaneously by 2026, effectively doubling the current capacity. This move underscores Carnival’s strategic plan to bolster its operations in the Caribbean, aiming to attract a larger number of cruise passengers to the region.

The extended pier is expected to welcome almost four million passengers annually by 2028. This increase in capacity is anticipated to considerably boost the local tourism industry, contributing significantly to the island’s economic development. Carnival’s ambitious plans for Celebration Key reflect a broader vision for the island’s role in its cruise operations.

Celebration Key is set to debut in summer 2025, with the initial phase including the original two berths projected to welcome 2.2 million passengers annually. The destination will feature five distinct areas, or ‘portals’, in addition to a mile-long beach, freshwater lagoons, and various facilities for dining, shopping, and other entertainment, offering a comprehensive tourism experience.

According to Christine Duffy, President of Carnival Cruise Line, “As is fitting for our plans for Grand Bahama island, our vision for Celebration Key is quite grand, and we’re already thinking about the next phase of expansion and development.” Her statement signifies the importance of this project not only to Carnival Cruise Line but also to the community of Grand Bahama, highlighting its potential for sustainable tourism development.
