    Council leaders push for Bedford’s Universal park

    Local council leaders and executives have addressed the Prime Minister, urging support for a new Universal theme park in Bedford.

    Council leaders and top executives from six local authorities have proactively engaged with the Prime Minister, advocating the development of a Universal theme park in Bedford. The initiative aims to significantly boost the local and national economy, with predictions of generating more than £35 billion and creating thousands of jobs.

    The letter to Sir Keir Starmer was emphatic, stating their unwavering support and commitment to collaborate with Universal Destinations & Experiences. The project is seen as a substantial opportunity to benefit residents, attract tourists, and fortify the community’s economic framework.

    Laura Church, chief executive of Bedford Borough Council, stressed the importance of greenlighting the project, highlighting its potential to draw millions of tourists annually, particularly from Europe and overseas. Such an influx is poised to strengthen the UK’s reputation as a prime destination for both tourism and business investment, thereby fostering sectoral growth.

    The correspondence, endorsed by representatives from Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire, Luton Borough, Milton Keynes City, North Northamptonshire, and West Northamptonshire, indicates unified regional support. Mayor Tom Wootton of Bedford Borough echoed the community’s enthusiasm, remarking on the consistent backing from residents and businesses alike.
