The Ambassador Cruise Line has had to adjust its itinerary due to planned protests by Extinction Rebellion in Amsterdam. This unexpected change affects the docking plans for the ship Ambience. The cruise will now dock at Ijmuiden instead of Amsterdam’s central terminal on the Bank Holiday. Arrangements have been made for guest transfers to Amsterdam city center. Previous protests have already impacted the cruise line’s operations.
The Ambassador Cruise Line has been compelled to alter its scheduled stop in Amsterdam due to anticipated demonstrations by Extinction Rebellion. The cruise line was informed by local port agents about planned protests on 26 August that threatened the ship Ambience’s scheduled entry into Amsterdam’s central cruise terminal. Consequently, as a precautionary measure considering the safety and comfort of their guests, the decision was made to redirect the docking location to Ijmuiden, located approximately one hour away from Amsterdam.
Guests aboard the Ambience have been assured that their experience will be minimally impacted by the change in docking plans. The cruise line has arranged for a complimentary transfer service to convey guests from Ijmuiden to Amsterdam, ensuring that planned city visits and destination experiences continue as scheduled.
Given the shift in docking location, the duration of these experiences will be extended to accommodate the extra travel time required to reach Amsterdam. The cruise line expressed apologies for any inconvenience this alteration may cause, extending gratitude to guests for their understanding and cooperation.
This adjustment follows a previous incident where environmental protests had similarly compelled the cruise line to reroute its other ship, Ambition, to the same alternative docking location. This suggests an emerging pattern of operational adjustments necessitated by environmental activism in the region.
The Ambassador Cruise Line continues to prioritise guest safety while navigating environmental challenges.
