Hays Travel, for the second consecutive year, is sponsoring the Sandals Foundation’s Island Challenge, reaffirming its commitment to supporting philanthropic initiatives in the Caribbean. The event is set to unfold in October on the island of Saint Vincent, featuring a challenging itinerary where participants will engage in a 50-mile journey that encompasses running, sea kayaking, and scaling the active La Soufriere volcano. This ambitious endeavour not only tests participants’ endurance but also serves a larger purpose: raising £100,000 for vital healthcare improvements.
The Island Challenge is strategically timed to coincide with the 15th anniversary of the Sandals Foundation. The funds gathered from this event will play a crucial role in enhancing healthcare facilities, specifically targeting the needs of infants and young children battling cancer in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Dame Irene Hays, chair of Hays Travel, expressed her optimism about the initiative, stating, “After the success of last year’s Sandals Run, we are delighted to return as sponsors for 2024.”
In a recent event celebrating the foundation’s anniversary, Katharine Dunwoodie of Hays Travel joined key figures such as Adam Stewart, Sandals International’s executive chair, and Heidi Clarke, executive director of the foundation, among others, to laude the foundation’s accomplishments over the years. This gathering highlighted not only healthcare initiatives but also the foundation’s efforts in education and environmental conservation.
The success of last year’s Island Run, which laid the groundwork for this year’s more ambitious challenge, underscores the impactful change that coordinated efforts can bring to communities in need. With an auction and raffle during the event raising an additional £15,000, the dedication of both organisers and participants continue to drive these humanitarian efforts forward.
The Sandals Foundation’s Island Challenge once again illustrates the power of collaborative efforts in addressing critical healthcare needs in the Caribbean.
