    Michael Bottomley Renshaw’s remarkable 62-year journey in the travel industry has come to a celebrated end, with numerous industry leaders and former students honouring his legacy.

    Michael Bottomley Renshaw’s illustrious career in the travel industry has spanned over six decades, beginning in 1962 as a trainee travel clerk at Thomas Cook. His dedication and expertise have left an indelible mark on the industry, particularly through his contributions to education, where he pioneered the UK’s first full-time Diploma in Travel and Tourism at Durham Technical College in 1973.

    His role in shaping the careers of numerous travel professionals has been widely acknowledged, with Dame Irene Hays among those who have praised his efforts. In a heartfelt video message, she highlighted Renshaw’s role in mentoring and supporting young people to achieve their ambitions in travel and tourism. “Your passion for helping to access current business knowledge and give the opportunity to your students to quiz has never wavered,” she remarked.

    Renshaw’s collaboration with John Hays was instrumental in the establishment of the first Hays Travel shop in 1980. Dame Irene Hays lauded him for his enduring commitment to education and the industry’s growth, noting that his impact on young people has been immense.
