The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) UK & Ireland achieved a milestone by organising its inaugural dual destination training event, which prominently featured suppliers from the Middle East. Held in London on September 12, the event drew in sixty travel agents to gain insights and forge connections with suppliers from two significant regions.
The presence of Middle Eastern suppliers was notably strong, with half of the participants representing esteemed organisations such as Qatar Tourism, Ajman Tourism, NH Collection The Palm Dubai, and Dusit Hotels & Resorts. This marked a significant shift in focus, acknowledging the growing importance of the Middle East as a standalone destination and a crucial gateway to Asia and Australia.
Participants also included representatives from the Indian Ocean, showcasing premier hospitality brands such as Uga Sri Lanka, Gili Lankanfushi Maldives, and Mautourco Mauritius. The event served to underline the luxury appeal and complemented the Middle Eastern offering, positioning both regions as attractive for honeymooners and luxury travellers.
Betsie Barr, PATA UK’s marketing and events manager, expressed enthusiasm about the event, stating, “The addition of the Middle East in our training calendar is really exciting, enabling agents to network, learn and build connections with key suppliers.” Such strategic initiatives are designed to bolster the agency’s offerings and expand opportunities for network-building among agents.
Barr further elaborated on the strategic placement of the Middle East, emphasising its dual role: “The Middle East is of course a standalone holiday destination in itself but also serves as a key gateway to Asia and Australia and is a key partner to the Indian Ocean too.” This reflects an understanding of indirect flight routes being a favourable option, offering cost-effective travel solutions.
The event successfully expanded PATA’s engagement with Middle Eastern suppliers, enhancing its strategic positioning in global travel networks.
