Brazil has unveiled the main factors attracting British tourists to its vibrant landscapes. Spurred by this interest, visitor numbers have surged impressively. Key destinations within the nation are enjoying marked popularity among British visitors. An insightful study by Embratur uncovers the diverse attractions that Brazil offers to UK tourists. The country’s tourism sector is witnessing a significant rise in foreign expenditure.

Brazil has become increasingly popular among British tourists, with the latest statistics showing an 18% year-on-year increase in arrivals, reaching 81,200 visitors in the first half of 2024. These numbers are attributed to the country’s appeal in terms of culture, weather, and beach holidays, as highlighted by a recent Embratur study.

The top destinations attracting British tourists include Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Foz do Iguacu, and the Amazonas. These locations are praised for their unique offerings, from the vibrant city life of Rio to the natural wonders found in the Amazon rainforest.

According to the Embratur study, 42% of British tourists are drawn to the cultural experiences that Brazil offers, reflecting a deep interest in the country’s rich heritage and traditions. Moreover, 38% of visitors are attracted by the warm weather, while 31% come for the sun-drenched beaches.

Other attractions include gastronomy (22%), nature (20%), and the Brazilian people themselves (16%). Only a small percentage of tourists (10%) were motivated by other factors, such as business, which accounted for just 3% of the visitors.

The tourism sector in Brazil is experiencing unprecedented growth, with the first half of 2024 seeing international visitor arrivals 1.9% above pre-pandemic levels. Rio de Janeiro, in particular, saw a nearly 20% increase in foreign tourists, marking the best result in a decade. Additionally, tourist spending hit a record high with $3.7 billion infused into the economy during this period.
