    Introduction

Trees4Travel has partnered with the Association of Touring and Adventure Suppliers (Atas) to demonstrate how travel can serve as a positive force for environmental and social good.

Co-founded in 2020 by Nico and Elkie Nicholas, Trees4Travel employs technology to measure carbon emissions from trips and offsets these by planting trees, investing in renewable energy, and promoting biodiversity.

    Promoting Sustainable Travel

Trees4Travel’s core mission is to highlight the environmental impact of tourism and to encourage mindful practices within the travel industry. Their technology allows travellers and travel companies to calculate trip emissions and compensate by planting trees.

    Growing Partnerships

Elkie Nicholas emphasised the significance of forming global partnerships. Trees4Travel collaborates with travel companies to foster a regenerative approach to travel activities through effective climate contributions.

She stated, “We are accelerating partnerships globally, enabling travel companies and their customers to engage in transformative and regenerative activities through simple and impactful climate contributions.”

    Supporting United Nations Goals

Trees4Travel aligns its initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By linking tree planting with United Nations Certified Emissions Reduction (CER) renewable energy programmes, the organisation ensures comprehensive environmental benefits.

Elkie explained that each tree is connected to a CER programme, providing a share of carbon credits which further amplifies the impact of their sustainability efforts. This connection ensures that their projects not only focus on reducing emissions but also support renewable energy.

Nico Nicholas highlighted the role of travel agents in promoting sustainability, stating, “Travel agents are on the frontline, helping travellers make smarter, more sustainable choices that benefit the planet.”

    Trade Shows and Conferences

To raise awareness, Trees4Travel actively participates in several prominent trade shows and conferences. These include the Business Travel Association conference in London, Institute of Travel Management conference in Brighton, and Arabian Travel Market in Dubai.

Elkie Nicholas noted the growing demand for sustainable holidays in the UK market and expressed optimism about the touring and adventure travel sector’s potential for growth.

    Empowering Travel Agents

Trees4Travel offers tools and resources to help travel agents incorporate sustainability into their services. This includes providing 10 trees to every agent that signs up, a dedicated dashboard for calculating trip emissions, and scripts for introducing sustainable travel.

Additionally, travel agents can gift a tree per booking and have access to marketing materials such as digital leaflets, videos, and social media content to promote sustainable travel options to clients.

These resources ensure that agents can play a crucial role in educating travellers and guiding them towards environmentally friendly choices.

    New Sustainability Hub from Atas

Trees4Travel welcomes the launch of Atas’s new sustainability hub, seeing it as a key platform for fostering understanding and participation in climate action.

Nico and Elkie Nicholas believe that this hub will become a pivotal resource for travel agents, enabling them to contribute significantly to climate action and to promote a safer, cleaner, and more equitable world.

    Conclusion

The collaboration between Trees4Travel and Atas showcases the potential for travel to be a powerful force for environmental and social good.
