Visit Lancashire, the official website of the Lancashire and Blackpool tourist board, has launched a new website for an improved visitor experience.

The new website, http://www.visitlancashire.com, offers information on where to stay and eat, things to do, and places to see. The page highlights a ‘Most Popular This Week’ segment for the latest happenings in the county, including the best hotels and restaurants to visit that week.

The website is also offering info on local events including The Lancashire Tourism Awards 2012/2013, which will be held at The Guild Hall, Preston, on September 13, 2012. These are the annual premier awards that identify outstanding qualities and achievements in the tourism sector, which is responsible for bringing GBP3.25 billion into the local economy.

Wayne Hemingway, an acclaimed fashion designer and style guru will be the guest presenter at the event. Commenting on the event, Hemingway said, ‘I’m really delighted to have been invited to present the Lancashire Tourism Awards, in such a significant year for Lancashire and for the industry as a whole.

Celebrating the achievements of the county’s finest tourism businesses so soon after being personally involved in the Preston Guild, one of Lancashire’s most prestigious events, will be an absolute pleasure.

I’m looking forward to meeting and congratulating the people who contribute so much to Lancashire’s thriving visitor economy and the welcoming reputation of which, as a Lancastrian, I’m so proud.’

The website is planning to launch a smartphone application on the Android platform soon, to allow visitors to access the site through their personal devices.
