Flybe, the UK-based European regional airline, has announced the launch of a new route between Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

The new service was launched on September 7 2015 and offers up to three flights per day, departing early morning, lunchtime and late afternoon. The service enables passengers to connect onwards to a host of European and long haul destinations available from Amsterdam including New York, Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Shanghai and Toronto.

This new route will add to the airline’s existing Liverpool departures to the Isle of Man and Belfast City, with Flybe operating a total of up to 120 weekly flights to and from Liverpool. The airline has also recently announced further expansion from Liverpool with the addition of a new daily service to Edinburgh that starts at the end of October.

To mark the occasion of Flybe’s inaugural flight from Liverpool to Amsterdam, Mark Povall, LJLA’s Air Service Development Director, presented Lotte Harbers, Aviation Marketing Director for Schiphol Airport, with a special ‘Superlambanana’ gift on behalf of Liverpool. The ‘Superlambanana’ is a famous 17ft tall sculpture located in Liverpool City centre.

Paul Simmons, Chief Commercial Officer of Flybe, said: ‘Flybe is delighted to play a part in making it possible for Liverpool customers to access the world through Amsterdam and, just as importantly, make it easier for the rest of the world to come to Liverpool. We already have a number of code-share and interline arrangements with long haul carriers that, in the future, have the potential to benefit passengers even further.’

Andrew Cornish, CEO of Liverpool John Lennon Airport commented: ‘In the past, re-establishing a ‘hub link’ from Liverpool has been the most requested service by stakeholders and passengers across the Liverpool City Region. Both business and leisure passengers are now able to take advantage of the convenience of being able to start their long haul journeys from their home airport, as well as bringing a further boost for the region’s tourism offer and inward investment opportunities.’

Fares on Flybe’s new route to Amsterdam start from £34.99 one way including taxes and charges, and are available for booking through to March 26, 2016 at www.flybe.com
