Scandinavian airline, SAS, has recently said that it will start operations from Cornwall Airport Newquay in summer 2019.

Commencing on June 28, 2019, the airline will operate its first route connecting Cornwall directly with Copenhagen. Tickets start from £82 each way, or from £153 return, including taxes and charges.

Copenhagen has a reputation as being amongst the happiest places in the world, according to studies. Flights from Newquay will operate on Monday and Fridays in each direction, with flights departing Newquay at 7.05pm, arriving into Copenhagen at 10.10pm, and returning from Copenhagen at 5pm, arriving into Newquay at 6.25pm.

The new service follows on from the airline’s route launch between London Stansted and Copenhagen in April. With the service, SAS operates direct routes to the Danish capital from seven UK airports – including from London Heathrow, Manchester, Birmingham, Aberdeen and Edinburgh.

Commenting on the move, Al Titterington, Managing Director, Cornwall Airport Newquay said: ‘This is a route not only for the many Scandinavians wanting to explore Cornwall and the South West of the UK, but also for our local catchment, which now have flights designed perfectly for an extended weekend break in one of Europe’s coolest capital cities.’

Niko Ek, general manager for SAS Europe, added: ‘We delighted to launch this brand new route for summer 2019, both to offer residents of SW England an exciting new direct destination to explore, and to bring Scandinavian tourists into such a beautiful region of England. We look forward to welcoming travellers on board our new flight’.

The new service opens a direct link between Cornwall and Denmark bringing Copenhagen within a two-hour flight from Cornwall. It also allows passengers to connect onto a network of over 70 onward destinations in Europe, Asia and North America.
