Manchester Airport is on the cusp of unveiling the second phase of its expansive Terminal 2 redevelopment.

Set to open in summer 2025, this remarkable transformation aims to enhance passenger experience through a variety of new shops, bars, and dining options.

    Enhancements at Terminal 2

The upcoming completion of Manchester’s Terminal 2 marks a significant milestone in the airport’s ongoing expansion efforts. This strategic development will introduce an unprecedented variety of retail and dining options, extending the offerings available to passengers since the opening of the first phase in 2021. The Terminal 2 expansion is a pivotal component of the larger £1.3 billion airport transformation scheme, aimed at bolstering passenger experience and operational capacity.

    The Great Northern Market

One of the most anticipated features of the new Terminal 2 is the Great Northern Market which promises to redefine the airport dining experience. Located within a 472-seat food hall, it will host six international street-food kitchens, blending global flavours with local culinary traditions. The inclusion of popular brands such as Fever-Tree and JD Wetherspoon, alongside Greggs, ensures a diverse range of tastes and price points are catered for.

This market-inspired dining area is designed to be both a culinary and social hub, providing a space where travellers can relax and enjoy world-class food before their flights.

Shopping at The Avenue and Boutique Mall

The shopping experience at Terminal 2 is set to undergo a transformation with the introduction of The Avenue and Boutique Mall. The Avenue, styled as a high street, will house well-known brands like Lego and Pandora, providing passengers with familiar shopping options.

Meanwhile, Boutique Mall will cater to those seeking luxury, with premium outlets such as Chanel and a dedicated Fever-Tree bar for those wishing to unwind in style.

Overall, these new retail spaces are designed to offer a balance of everyday essentials and luxury indulgences, enhancing the overall travel experience at the airport.

    World Duty Free Expansion

Manchester Airport’s commitment to enhancing customer experience is further demonstrated by the opening of a new, expansive World Duty Free store. Covering over 2,165 square metres, this store will feature an array of high-end brands including Christian Dior, Gucci, and YSL.

The addition of these global luxury brands not only elevates the airport’s retail offerings but also ensures that passengers have access to some of the world’s most sought-after products at duty-free prices.

This investment in premium retail spaces underscores the airport’s strategy to evolve into a major commercial hub, reflecting its ambition to compete with leading airports worldwide.

    Leadership and Vision

Chris Woodroofe, the airport’s Managing Director, emphasises that the new Terminal 2 is designed to connect the North of England with global destinations through state-of-the-art facilities. He stated, “We are really proud to connect the North to the world – and now through our brand new Terminal 2 we’re able to do that in a setting that rivals any airport in any major capital city.”

Woodroofe’s vision involves not just expanding the physical capacity of the airport but enhancing the passenger journey from start to finish. By investing in both functionality and aesthetics, the airport aims to provide a travel experience that is both efficient and enjoyable.

    Passenger Experience Reimagined

The expansion of Terminal 2 is set to redefine the passenger experience at Manchester Airport. With a focus on modernity and convenience, the development offers travellers an enhanced environment that combines functionality with leisure.

The integration of advanced technology alongside premium services ensures that Manchester Airport remains at the forefront of passenger engagement and satisfaction.

    Looking Ahead

As Manchester Airport prepares for the summer 2025 opening of the new Terminal 2 facilities, it stands ready to set new standards in airport experience. This expansion represents a commitment to growth and excellence in service, seamlessly merging operational efficiency with customer-centric offerings.

With strategic investments and an eye on global connectivity, Manchester Airport is poised to set new benchmarks in travel experience. This ambitious expansion not only broadens the airport’s offerings but enriches the journey for every passenger passing through Terminal 2.
