This month, agents are encouraged to join clean-up events across the UK in honour of Sarah Auffret.

    • The ‘Clean up for Sarah’ initiative commemorates the late Sarah Auffret, a pioneer against marine plastic pollution.
    • Events will be conducted from June 11 to 14 at locations including Chester, Woking, and Norfolk.
    • Involved agents will be provided equipment and can choose to participate for as long as they wish.
    • Non-participating agents can still contribute by sharing clean-up efforts in their areas.

Agents are being called upon to join clean-up initiatives across the UK this month, held in memory of Sarah Auffret, an influential figure in the efforts against marine plastic pollution. The ‘Clean up for Sarah’ initiative serves not only to honour Sarah’s legacy, but also to take meaningful action towards environmental preservation.

Sarah Auffret was a distinguished polar guide and environmental champion, whose untimely passing in an aircraft accident in 2019 marked a significant loss for the expedition cruise industry. Her birthday, June 16, has since become a symbolic date for these global clean-up efforts that take place annually from June 11 to 19.

Events will take place in three UK locations: Chester at the Wales Coastal Path on June 11, Woking at Pyford Lock on June 12, and Winterton Beach in Norfolk on June 14. Each clean-up is scheduled to start at 10 am, with necessary equipment supplied to participants. Agents are encouraged to stay as long as their schedules allow, offering flexibility in their level of involvement.

For those unable to attend the specified locations, there is an invitation to extend the initiative’s spirit by orchestrating or participating in local clean-ups and sharing their experiences through photographs.

Andrew Turner, the EMEA sales director for AE Expeditions, expressed pride in supporting this initiative, underscoring the impact as, “These clean-ups remove thousands of kilograms of rubbish from local environments every year,” highlighting the significant contributions towards community and environmental health.

This initiative not only pays tribute to Sarah Auffret but also actively contributes to a cleaner environment.
