The travel industry experienced a notable 80% rise in job vacancies in September 2024, signalling a robust recovery.

    • This increase marks the highest month-on-month growth since January, with vacancies reaching a six-month high.
    • Candidate activity within the travel sector also surged, recording the highest September levels since 2017.
    • The number of job placements grew by 27%, highlighting a positive trend in employment within the industry.
    • Industry leaders express optimism about sustained growth in the coming months as summer distractions wane.

The travel industry marked a significant milestone in September 2024 as job vacancies surged by 80% compared to the previous month, reaching the highest total for six months. This notable increase was the largest month-on-month jump witnessed since January, reflecting a strong rebound in sector activity.

Compared to September 2023, vacancies were up by 29%, a clear indicator of the industry’s recovery trajectory. This influx of opportunities signals a positive shift in the employment landscape, offering promising prospects for job seekers within the travel domain.

Furthermore, the number of candidates initiating their job search saw a substantial rise, reaching the highest September figures since 2017. This was a 12% increase from August and a 29% rise from the same period last year, depicting a vibrant and dynamic job market environment.

In terms of job placements, the sector enjoyed a 27% uptick, as more candidates successfully secured roles in September than any time since May. This trend is a promising development for the industry, potentially paving the way for continued growth and stability.

Barbara Kolosinska, managing director of C&M Travel Recruitment, expressed optimism stating, “While it’s great that new placements, vacancies and candidates all rose month-on-month in September, it’s even better to see that vacancies and candidates also increased from the same month in 2023 – with placements holding steady too.” Her comments highlight the positive sentiment as the industry heads into the fourth quarter.

However, despite the encouraging statistics, industry experts urge caution. The summer period was notably quiet for travel recruitment, but the momentum gained in September is a hopeful sign for continuing advancements in the coming months.

The travel industry’s burgeoning job market in September sets a promising tone for future growth, as attention shifts back to workforce expansion.
